the conditions in Yosemite are very wet n will be getting wetter before there's any drying.... i saw video of the LZ n presently it is a riverbed, there is/was about a 40 sq ft patch of green which i expect to disappear under the water soon. the river level was about 4" from the top of Sentinel Bridge.

Link to the Merced River height: http://water.weather.gov/ahps2/hydrograph.php?gage=pohc1&wfo=hnx

Bridalveil creek campground has n opening date of Aug 1st n we need to have Bridalveil campground available, i am just sayin..

i have adjusted the YHGA schedule to reflect this change n hopefully there is enough time for you to adjust your schedule to make this happen. so now the fly days i am supporting are Aug 4-7.

Glacier Point Road in Yosemite National Park to Open on Thursday, May 11, 2017

Yosemite National Park will open the Glacier Point Road to all vehicular traffic at 9:00 am on Thursday, May 11, 2017.

There will be limited visitor services available at Glacier Point. The Glacier Point Store will be open at 10:00 am on Friday, May 12, 2017. There is no projected opening date for the Bridalveil Creek Campground.

Due to a historically-high snow pack, visitors planning to hike on any trails along the Glacier Point Road should be prepared for winter hiking conditions. Most trails remain covered in snow. In these conditions, it is very easy to lose oneís way and hike off trail.

The Four Mile Trail is open from Yosemite Valley to Union Point. The trail remains closed from Glacier Point down to Union Point due to unstable ice sheets.

Visitors are encouraged to slow down and drive with caution along all park roads, as bears and other wildlife may be present on or near the roadway. Drivers should be aware of potential hazards in the road, including wet and icy conditions or debris in the roadway.

Spring is a busy time to visit Yosemite National Park. Visitors are encouraged to plan their trips in advance and arrive to the park before 9:00 am or after 4:00 pm. Parking areas throughout the park are expected to fill early in the day. Visitor parking will be available at the Yosemite Falls Day Parking Area and at Half Dome Village. Visitors are encouraged to park and utilize the free park shuttle to get to the Yosemite Valley Village and Visitor Center. Visitors coming to Yosemite from Friday through Sunday will see heavy visitation. Visitors should be prepared to wait in long lines at the park entrance stations. Parking throughout the park is limited.

For updated 24-hour road and weather conditions for Yosemite National Park, please call 209-372-0200, press 1 and press 1 again., hopefully that changes

Any report on conditions there? Will flying be possible? Park Service says the campground should open Aug. 1.

at the moment it does look like the fire will be a nonissue, might be a little smoky, just don't know at this time.

the LZ.... until i walk it i won't have a clue if it a riverbed still or a LZ, the merced river gage height can be viewed here:

https://waterdata.usgs.gov/nwis/uv?site_no=11266500

then i am not sure at this moment if the merced river will be open for floats, i do know that if a ranger (law type) see's you without a life vest you will probably be cited.

n yes, BCC is listed to be open Aug1st.

Jay reports that the LZ is dry and that the river is floatable.

...and Greg confirms both statements. Nice flying both Saturday and Sunday with a big waterfall to fly by and nice floating as well. Marshall was quite stoked to get his first flights from Glacier Point. Very cool new T-shirts this year happily replacing the old ones with the outsized glider drawing.
I've never seen the Bridalveil campground so crowded though. All the other high first-come-first-served campsites were closed for one reason or another, plus there were a lot of firemen occupying a bunch of sites for a week or two. We couldn't get in there on Friday night so had to camp outside the park until Saturday when I scarfed up a spot.
Lots of traffic and other changes in the park this year. The boat rental has moved across the loop and is now on the connector road that runs from the village to the south side loop.
