Kagel Launch Road Closed Sat and possible Sun
Bad News this weekend. The forest service has double locked the gate to launch because of extreme mud. This is causing road damage when driven on. No vehicles are allowed inside the gate until the road is dry enough, and certainly not on Saturday 4/1/23. We're hoping the road will be open on Sunday....

Road to Towers Launch closed
The most recent rain caused a massive rock slide on the forest service road to Contract Point. The Forest Service is currently importing heavy equipment to facilitate the repairs. The initial estimate is for the closure to last up to 2 weeks. In the meantime, the Towers Launch is closed as there is ...

Kagel Mtn in the Really Old Days
The attached photo taken in 1888 looks upstream towards Towers Launch, Locals, and the Kagel ridge line. Long before the flood control projects that brought us the Pacoima Dam and the smaller Lopez Dam (nearly 3 miles down stream), efforts were made to dam up the water table below Pacoima Wash. Very...

Re: The road
Not washed out. Not real bad and still and easy 4wd and high clearance 2wd, with 2 spots that require care and caution when driving around. It would be easy for a car or truck to slide into one of these deep ruts and get stuck on the frame of the car. I'm monitoring the weather and hope to do road m...

Wonderful day at Bates
With strong winds and clouds at Kagel, Kris and I decided to spend the afternoon at the beach near Ventura. Glad we did cause the soaring was smooth, the view was great, and the top landings fun. Kris flew my 195 Falcon 2 and no paragliders could get anywhere near her. https://share.icloud.com/photo...

Success Story
Lynden Vazquez has been made Captain with Sky West! I'm sure all who know him are pleased, but few as much as me. I can't tell you how great is is to have watched Lynden grow up, get married to a wonderful girl, and begin to raise a family. As a 16 year old kid who discovered a hang glider in his gr...

Tower's Flight Restrictions
Camp 9 Corridor v2015-1a cropped.jpg Every so often it's helpful to review our club's Forest Service permit requirements for the Tower's Launch. Historically our main concerns are centered around the understanding that our permit requires us to operate without flying in or above the 1/2 mile wide c...

Re: Over the Back
Great to hear Greg.
You certainly earned every mile of it as few locals are willing to go over the back without more altitude than that.
Victorville to Baker was a bit of a "milk run" in the 80's, but getting there from Kagel is truly an accomplishment, even on better days.

Re: Bates Beach
That’s a heck of a way to inspire people to step up to the plate to try to save a site.
People said the same thing about getting Dockweiler Beach back as well as saving our Sylmar landing area and our Towers Launch Site.
I know that’s not how you meant it.

Re: Help Bezos $ come to SHGA!
Pay close attention to Frederick's instructions not to do your shopping at amazon.com, but smile.amazon.com instead. We have been making that mistake for quite some time and only just now learned that none of our purchase resulted in credit to the club.
