don't take Kagel Mt. for granted
After flying for a while at Kagel, you get used to it. I just moved to Austin, and now I have flying withdrawl symptoms. Sure, you can fly in Texas, but it's just not the same. I found a place about an hour away, it's 400-500 feet high, and there's some thermals, but it's not the same. You're all ve...

harness cleaning
What is a safe way do clean a harness. My cat decided the harness was part of her territory. I have a knee hanger harness. She marked it thoroughly.

Come on people, I need volunteers...
I need 2-3 volunteers for setting up and breaking down the flight simulator. We will be meeting there at 9:30 am. I'd also like some people to be there the whole time without flying, just to be available. I'm not going to fly that day. Flight simulator set up etc... Cooking and serving...mostly cove...

I went down to Torrey Pines this weekend to look at the headquarters they have there. They have a little cafe, office, pro shop/ gift shop, and a gazebo. There was also a digital windspeed readout inside. When visitors or tourist show up there, they see a well established organization. It looks more...

The reason I left the thermal, was because of the 3000 ft. rule. I didn't violate any airspace restriction, and by the time I got that high, I had drifted past the bridge and was heading towards the dam. I could have stayed in it, but I thought I'd fly to the volcanoe instead. I was well aware of my...

coming in to land and thermaling back up again
Today, I was coming in to land and there was another pilot infront of me who was lower. As I started heading to my staging area, I hit a little lift. To buy myself some time, I did a 360... my vario kept beeping, so I did another, and another, the other pilot landed, and I was still going up very fa...

If you really want your adventure pass, I think you should be able to swim two laps underwater in an olympic sized pool with no air, for water landings, do 20 chin ups with the military grip for tree landings, palms facing away from you, shoulder width apart, and tear a telephone book in half, have ...

No, I'm afraid we will not have the new gazebo done by then, but it will be a goal for next years mega event; the 25th annivesary party with more politicians and media coverage. This year is more casual, but there will still be a lot of events, and VIP guest. I am still trying to get as much as I ca...

Burning Man?
I've wanted to go to burning man for the last four years, but I haven't been able to. A lot of people I know from the FX industry go every year, and there is a lot of aerial activity there; skydivers, ultralights, etc. They even have a runway set up. It would be cool to do a hang gliding trip there....

An idea I had for a cool new gate
Instead of a chain link fence gate, wouldn't it be cool to have a really nice fancy wrought iron gate. Some of the main bars in the design could be from old Leonardo drawings of flying machines. I'll come up with a cool design when I have time. There are some really cool pictures of wing designs tha...

One thing to keep in mind when landing near roads, is, that's where powerlines usually are. A pilot landed on the roof of my parents house in Austin TX years ago, but it wasn't a hang glider, it was a hot air balloon. We shot him a few times, with a camera, and got some pictures. He just got low and...

Santa Barbara flying and wine tasting event
This event has not yet been organized, I just wanted to see how much interest there is in it. It would probably be in April. You can e-mail me throught the board of directors list on the website. I guess this would be a camping trip. -Chris Wolters

Chem Trails
I hate to sound paranoid, but what are these "chem trails". There are some obviously man made clouds, and they are not jet streams. Laugh all you want, but something is going on.

I was on launch, and halfway through setting up my glider, when I looked up and saw it. It got down low and walked in slow motion for a few seconds, then pounced and ran for me. I closed my eyes hoping for a quick death, but to my surpirse, it only wanted to play with the shiny hang 2 streamer on my...
