chad's absense

Hey folks, my close nit mountain biking family has been asking one at a time, so thought I might proactively reach out to any members of our close nit hang gliding family who read this forum. I tore up my hamstring while pulling up waterskiing in July. I attempted a non surgical recovery (big mistak...

cleaning hard drive - 2016 footage

I pulled a few clips before deleting the hard drive: 0:0 - starts out with two views of a launch to a flight that begins with some wire slaps 1:25 - how quickly two gliders can separate in the big sky 1:40 - a landing from side view 2:25 - stuck VG, trying to shake it through 2:57 - gaggle flying 3:...

darn it. I will be in New Hampshire for a family reunion. But if not for that, I would definitely be there. Rob and Janyce host the BEST after fly parties!

flying in very smokey air last Saturday, Nov 10, 2018

Saturday was after most of the fires died down. By the late afternoon the SW west had really brought all the smoke in. I think I heard a jab "its like san bernardino" oh snap. This was a demo flight of an Rx3.5. I spent the first 30 min well below the first bowl trying to get up. Not the glider's fa...

Phil's Air Force

with my lower back problems, seems I am down to flying about once per month. Grrr. Gotta fix that, but for now leaves some time for marginally interesting videos:

A big thanks to Phil.

2018 Dahlsten Cup

If a measure of success, the 2018 had 29 gliders simultaneously on launch up from 23 gliders in 2017. 2017: https://www.chadandrea.net/Links/BlogHangGliding/2018-10-09_DahlstenGliderCount/Dahlsen2017_23Gliders.JPG 2018: https://www.chadandrea.net/Links/BlogHangGliding/2018-10-09_DahlstenGliderCount/...

Very quick building fire out in Castaic

Saturday, 9/22. This is from a GoPro (wide angle) and quite far away but more dramatic when seen directly. The fire was noticed after launch, kinda a spec way out to the North, but grew quickly. Weird seeing the puffy white cloud of top of the column of dark smoke in the beginning. I read that this ...

Hi Richard, thanks for the lesson learned info. This shows that even really skilled and safe pilots like yourself can make minor mistakes that make the critical difference in (rare) cases where there is little margin for error. When I started learning to fly (still learning) in the 80's, I attempted...

I pulled together some of the footage of the staging gaggles during the Dahlsten. The wide angle GoPro makes everything appear far away, but we had some nice gaggles going.

2017 Dahlsten Cup Results Discussion

Hey folks (Chippy, JD, et. Al.): have the total tracks been uploaded somewhere? What about some more post comp analysis, like an animated track video? Also what about any on-board flight video? I have some, nothing great, but will share when ready. Gotta take the opportunity to thank the significant...

that is a really cool representation of where we (as a group) did and didn't thermal; where we did and didn't fly. Seems the thermal areas are/were quite defined, very few cases of someone stumbling into a good thermal in the "non thermic" regions.

thanks!!!

These were found - my bad! While breaking down recently, on the day I had finally decided to order new ones (friends tired of seeing me wrap my wingtips with old shirts, etc), I could not find my remaining pads in my harness! Despite that I had looked all through the harness several times for the ot...

gray wing tip bag with batten bag inside of it

this went missing on 6/3/2017. I had it when I setup at launch but could not find it when completing my glider breakdown at sunset. guessing either I forgot to pack it in my harness at launch or it accidentally got packed away after landing. please let me know if it turns up. thanks, Chad Margolin

Even if this video was made in jest, there are alot of dumb people in this world that are heavily influenced by what they see in the media. With just the wrong mix of drugs, mental instability, firearms, and hang gliding, and what could we have? FYI If you want to avoid watching this video which giv...
