It looks like the Santa Cruz Flats Race (hang gliding competition in Casa Grande, AZ) is ON again this year. I'm going.

Re: Near midair-collision over Kagel ridge on Sunday 12/19/2021

I think that Pilot B was in your blind spot until just before the encounter. The blind spot is definitely an issue. If you're banked up in thermal, you will have a blind spot. It looks like you cleared the area that was going to become your blind spot before you banked up and created it. After that,...

Re: Saturday's close call

Yikes! Good job dodging that one. And Vrezh, good job on the call. I'll be upping my effort to scan the horizon, and flying with a radio.

Re: Over the Back

Thanks everyone. The Baker airport has a sock and it was hanging straight down when I flew over. I didn't really want to land there because the runway is narrow and oriented North South and I was still thinking about the West wind I had seen the whole flight. I couldn't tell from the air whether the...

Over the Back

The forecast for Monday 4/19/21 looked good enough to ditch work over, so that’s what I did. I didn’t find anyone else interested in flying, so I drove my own car up. By the way, the road is great. I hadn’t seen it in a long time. I got off the hill a little before 1:00 because the forecast was for ...

New Mexico

I’ve been spending a lot of time in the Las Cruces area for work. I’ve been driving to get here, so bringing my glider of course. The flying here is great. Local pilot, Robin Hastings is kind of the last of the active pilots in the area. He’s a super nice guy with a wealth of local knowledge and a r...

Thanks for posting, Rob. If everyone could just avoid infecting each other for a couple of weeks, this shit would be over.

Re: Tuesday

No, only 6 times, 7 if you count the time I came up short, but walked the rest of the way. Maybe 17 is a typo? If it makes you feel better, I’ve sunk out at Big T more than 100 times.

I ditched work on Tuesday because the forecast looked really good. The actual conditions turned out to be good enough to fly to Crestline. There's a track log of my flight at

Re: Corona flying

I'm not committing to not flying yet, but I passed on last weekend and this weekend. I plan to continue hiking up the hill anyway.

We're okay so far too, but we also know people who aren't.

Thanks for trying to keep this forum going.

I think it's more like 77 miles into the flight, but still a long way.
