Re: Flying/intro Nov 2/4/5/6

Hi Jeremy, As long as you are an H3 or above, we are happy to have you fly here. There should be people flying on the weekend as long as Santa Ana northeast winds are not blowing. For a site intro you might ask for Jay Devorak who is our site caretaker in the LZ. Rob Burgis is another pilot who live...

TNT Tim, if you want access to the Driver calendar, just email me, [email protected], since I don't really know who TNT is. I need the email you use for any club stuff to send the invite.

Re: Rides up Kagel

I've gotten some understandable complaints about too many notifications. Please know that you can turn off any or all notifications regarding this calendar if you wish. You can also turn off the display of this or any other particular calendar by clicking the name of the calendar (Kagel Driver calen...

Rides up Kagel

Looks like my previous posts here got deleted somehow so once again... The loss of Steve Clark as a reliable driver to get us up the hill has made flying Kagel more problematic so I am submitting this plan in the hope that it would provide a way to improve the situation. By now everyone should have ...

LZ work day

We need volunteers for some work Saturday the 5th (next week). Come out to fly (we're beginning to creep out from underneath winter) but get there early and help take care of our LZ beforehand. We will yank and cut some weeds, do a bit of painting, rock removal and cleaning. We are planning communit...

Re: Near midair-collision over Kagel ridge on Sunday 12/19/2021

It always takes 2 to tango but I'm amazed that pilot B would be cruising in a straight line up the ridge and never see a glider doing turns in his flight path in a location where people are usually thermalling.

Central Cal flying

Did a little trip up north awhile back and flew Tollhouse and Dunlap with very nice flights in both spots. Ron Jones lives right near the LZ and is the guy to talk to about flying there. He showed me a spot to spend the night up there and arranged a driver when 3 of us went up to fly one day. Info f...

Yosemite this summer. Save the date, as they say.

The work on the Glacier Point road was postponed a year and Arthur has signed up to monitor July 17 and 18. Last season to fly the Y for awhile as the road is scheduled to be closed the following 2 years. I will be going up earlier in the week as usual to grab a spot or two so as the time approaches...

Great to hear, Vrezh! Sounds like there is not much long term damage, if any? Glad to hear you are home. Good luck with it.

Re: Yosemite over Labor Day?

Well, it was an interesting trip. I got up there first Thursday afternoon with a little family entourage and was happy to discover that our "parking lot" campground had porta-potties, a trash dumpster and lots of good camping areas in the trees and meadow around the perimeter. The whole sc...

Fires are clouding the picture for next weekend. Here are two sites to monitor the air quality: A map: https://www.purpleair.com/map?opt=1/mAQI/a10/cC0&select=14537#9.85/37.6263/-119.8048 , and a High Sierra webcam near launch: https://www.nps.gov/media/webcam/view.htm?id=81B464CB-1DD8-B71B-0BCE...

Dear Chapters and clubs. I would appreciate your help with getting the word out about the 2020 Red Rocks. Please forward this to your members and post on facebook, whats app, and telegram pages. Also check out the great video from Bart Garton from last year's Red Rocks. (only 2 minutes) https://vime...

Re: Yosemite over Labor Day?

Arthur is confirmed as the monitor. Sign up at yosemitehg.org.
Entry tickets for this weekend through recreation.gov are all taken, however Arthur can get you day passes for flying Saturday and Sunday so you will be able to enter the park on those days.

Yosemite over Labor Day?

I noticed today that day passes starting 9-3 were available for Yosemite. (Go to recreation.gov) That allows for entrance from 9-3 for 7 days, though you must leave at night. This will be the last chance to fly Yosemite for a couple of years (at least?) I'm planning to camp here: https://freecampsit...
