Re: Google Earth, CompeGPS, and Garmin MapSource Waypoints

None of these GPS links seem to work anymore. Alack and alas, I sent my 6030 in for maintenance, and as part of that procedure, they had to wipe the instrument's memory of way points and flight log. My beloved way points are no more. :( I would greatly appreciate it if someone has the time and know ...

Re: July 4

What a wonderful synopsis of the trip, Greg! My most memorable moments from the trip were the evening flight at Hat Creek Rim, this one screaming thermal I caught over Sugar, watching Sue sky out (she's fearless) over Sugar, and hanging out with you and everyone else at the RV park for 4th of July. ...

Launches & Landings

As some of you know, my friend Wolf has been recording launches and landings on the Saturdays that he is there at the LZ. We've created a YouTube channel to view his recordings. Please take a look.

Re: Let's fly Mingus!

Hey Sue, thanks for organizing this. Pat and I are IN like Flynn! Looking forward to flying with you! I'll coordinate with Jay regarding flying the cinder cone outside Flagstaff. It's only a 2 hr drive from the Mingus campground, so easily within reach! BTW - bring your O2 kit, just in case. When it...

Steve's 60th B-Day Party - You're Invited!

To all SHGA pilots and their families - I'm turning 60 on the 1st of March. I'll be throwing a party in the LZ on Saturday, the 29th of February. There will be food, drink and festivities! The partying will begin after flying (hope for good weather) but food will be served at around 3:30 PM or so. P...

Re: Katherine Yardley - Sad News

Here is an outstanding video you may have seen by Wayne Yentis. Time to look again. It's got so many beloved friends and some who have left the Earth already. Katherine Yardley at the 30 minute mark, Rome Dodson, Irwin too! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0FvqIhDBn3E&list=WL&index=9 Thanks ...

Re: Flyng the Owens in October

An intrepid gaggle of Sylmartians, including Greg A., George S., Arthur S., Kia R, Sue S., and Steve & Pat M, embarked on an epic adventure to the Owens Valley this WE. Conditions at Walt's were less than optimal, with anywhere from 0 to 7 mph winds creeping up launch. It was Sue's first time in...

Re: Katherine Yardley - Sad News

Pat and I are shocked and profoundly saddened by this news. We are here in the Owens, about to head up to Walt's for a long flight. If I were capable, I'd honor her memory with a long flight up into Nevada, like she would have done. Alas, I lack her skill, energy and enthusiasm. Katherine was an anc...

Re: Flyng the Owens in October

Good to know about the room, George. Expect random pilots to crash the Dow Villa at all hours to use the showers, hot tub, pool, and if anyone challenges, drop your name. :D My wife and I will be camping just south at the Boulder Creek RV Park. Greg will be camping at Tuttle Creek, and Sue checked h...

Re: Flyng the Owens in October

Sounds great, Sue. Maybe you can bring that new Jeep you just bought! Flying the Owens is pretty awesome. A personal locator device is a must, as is a hook knife, small survival kit, and your O2 system.

Flyng the Owens in October

Looking to see if there's any interest in a trip to the Owens in October? My wife Pat could be a driver, and we can comfortably recover three, if not four pilots and gliders. Anyone interested? You've always said you wanted to launch Walt's. Now here's your chance! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2p...

Thanks, Vrezh. It was a great trip. The flying was amazing, but the camping and camaraderie came in a close second. Count me and Pat in for next year!
