I'm curious how people find out about USFS closures. I couldn't find a link on the USFS website. Thanks.

Beautiful!!!
Man, that LZ is unrecognizable,
what happened to that grass?
Good question about the LZ grass. I haven't asked the club board about it so I don't know why it's gotten this brown. I don't recall what it looked like past years at this time.

Gliding Into A Smoke Filtered Sunset - 2020-08-20

https://youtu.be/_sI2teqbtR0 Massive fires all over the state obscure the skies in San Bernardino creating a beautiful light as I coast along late in the day. I also flew earlier when it was turbulent: https://youtu.be/ZPUFzIPn3yU https://photos.imageevent.com/aero92/misc/giant/Devore%20Sunset%202.p...

Re: Beautiful Views @ 8,000' on 111.6°F Saturday

Great! Glad you enjoyed cooler temps at high altitudes. Crestline was definitely the place to be Saturday. It was going to be just OK at Kagel, then the soarcasts downgraded miserably, so I didn't even bother to think about flying in 110F around 4K. I wish I had planned for Crestline that day. Happ...

Flight Analysis, Summary & Highlights - 2020-08-09

https://youtu.be/wHX_DP77EEQ This is a review of what I did wrong and what I did right on Sunday at Crestline while flying my big 192sq ft floater across a 9-mile wide x 3-mile deep swath of mountain and canyons. The 3-1/4hr flight video is replaced by an analysis using SeeYou and short vignettes fr...

Bailout Just North of Gavina St

I safely landed my Icaro2000 RX2-190 there Saturday assisted by a fairly powerful drogue chute following a final glide of 1.7 miles at a less than 6:1 glide angle. The flush continued all the way to Gavina St and was so bad that I couldn't safely get across the naked power lines so I quickly doubled...

Thermic Landing Zone!

Although this happened at Andy Jackson Airpark, it applies equally to Sylmar. If the air is going up it may be safer to ride with it until it stops lifting off before attempting to land. Of course, pattern traffic can become an issue when more than one glider is coming in. Just an FYI https://youtu....

Elsinore to Capistrano Beach - 2012-05-08

Greg's stunning angst motivated me to provide at least a few minutes of escape from stir. This was 8 years ago but how often do we get to fly OTB from Elsinore to the beach? Full flight with poor quality live sound and hollering to my ramp crew due to shitty launch conditions. Winds above 10K were 5...
