East Coast Championships

I was in 5th place in the Flex wing division until the last day. On that day, we had very weak lift for 10 miles around the flight park and what appeared to be booming conditions after that. The task was a 55+ mile dogleg SE to near the ocean. At 10 minutes until the 1st start time I was at 3700' an...

Accident report?

Can we get an accident report to our safety director and to the USHGA? These kinds of reports help others to avoid the same mistakes. Our safety director is Joe Greblo this year.

Also, who it it? Inquiring minds want to know!

Live to fly another day

Chris and I often disagree, but I cannot thank him enough for his observation about living to fly another day. This past summer at Big Spring, I was on the flight line on a day that looked iffy. It seemed ok at the moment, so I was lining up to tow. As I waited in line, I watched the wind-mills on t...

Super Sport 163 & glider tube & instruments & harnesses

Non-pilot wants to sell brother's hang glider Bakersfield, 661/871-6518 I HAVE NOT SEEN THIS GLIDER, and the seller IS NOT A PILOT. I would bet you can get a good deal, but be sure to check it out carefully. Note that they have instruments and harnesses too... Even if you don't want the glider, the ...

Sample letter and directions for sending it

That darned forum size limit ate the end of my post. Here is the required information again: HOW TO SEND YOUR LETTER: Put your name & address on the letter below. (Better yet, write your own! Of course, be respectful and polite. We want this guy on our side!) Send it by one of these three ways so it...

Hang Gliding allowed in National Parks?

All Pilots! The National Park Service is about to update their Management Policies. The USHGA (and others) have been working to make those policies more friendly to hang gliding and paragliding. Below is information that was sent to me by some of those who have been working this issue. If you think ...

A caution

Sounds good, but be sure it is not only out of the launch line, but clear of anywhere someone would like to fly. I almost got trapped by another pilot in that area once. If there'd been a pole, I'd have been in deep doo-doo. Also, be sure it can be seen from the LZ and Windsports. It would be a sham...

Flytec meets

Bryan, I am entered in the Flytec meet (and the South Florida one too.) I will need a driver for both. I will also need a glider ride (and gear?) to Florida for my equipment. If you are interested, give me a call, or email me. George stebbins@acm.org 661-272-5869 Home 661-965-0493 Cell Sorry for pos...

Watering grass in the LZ (and oleanders)

To all: Please do not water the grass in the LZ. The brown portions are generally not that way because of lack of water, but because of poor soil and fertilization. We are going to be fertilizing the lawn soon. Also, we are trying to adjust the sprinklers zone by zone. To do this, we need to know wh...
