If you go to Hull mountain (Lake Pillsbury), then it's a nice trip up to Woodrat in OR. After that you can go on up to Dog Mountain WA where you can sample a fun ridge soaring site with an impressive evening glass off when it occurs. Just break down quickly because the black cloud you see when you l...

How wings really create lift

Interesting article documenting how lift is actually created. It's not via the common explanation of air moving faster across the top of a wing than the bottom because it has to meet at the end and the top is curved. http://www.physorg.com/news/2012-01-wings.html This explains why flat wings create ...

The story has been circulating since 1995. The AIM9X air-ground capability has been present only since 2007. From the original source (not Wikipedia) "The test marks the third time an AIM-9X engaged moving surface targets. In April 2008, a U.S. Air Force F-16 launched an AIM-9X and sank a maneu...

About a year and a half ago Kathy (my wife) spent a great deal of time putting together emergency contact information for nearly all the pilots in the club. Joe was included. Unfortunately, it appears that it was either misplaced or the location was forgotten. Previously it was in a folder in the ph...

I can't be sure, but my guess based on the pictures, is that the zipper is not completely closed. Then, depending on which way the wind blows, the sail either inflates or deflates. However my guess is that it's high pressure under the sail and the opening is allowing the sail to inflate somewhat inc...

It's not always as simple as it seems and large aircraft behavior under the layers of automation present make sometimes basic flight procedures not as transparent as we would like. There's a long and interesting discussion on the Airline pilots forum discussing many of the issues, for example: "...

Don't give the spammers air time. We've had way too many lately.

Pipe hanger support..... And as the person responsible for cleaning up these posts I: 1. Delete the post 2. Delete the identity 3. Ban the IP address from whence it came (India origin) It's pretty much "whack a mole" but I get a perverse pleasure from giving these posts minimal air time. ...

Well I'm glad the appropriate parties are getting use out of it. However, since it's wood, it will eventually get chewed. Is there any way I could talk you into putting it into a safe place? (i.e. the storage area, under the Gazebo somewhere or ?).

Thanks,

Mike

Lost Dumbbell

My wife (Kathy) left a training dumbbell on the field about two weeks ago.
If anyone saw it, just reply to this email with its current location.

It's a wooden retrieve dumbbell something like the ones pictured here:

The LPE looks like a great option. The only question I have is why not just use the straight 2X6 (other than price)? That eliminates the pad unless I am reading your proposal wrong. The cost will be about double what you show but we never need to to mess with it again.

A couple of suggestions -- 1. Use what we have so we can start using the deck, then start a search for a permanent solution. I agree that using crappy wood will only lead to problems downstream. That's from personal experience. 2. Think about using Trex for the top railing. Trex is expensive for a w...

I think the translation is as follows:

If there is a heat wave, with the very large snow pack, the entire valley floor is likely to be flooded. Thus, you'll need a fore and aft anchor after you land.

On this particular issue I respectfully disagree with the proposal. Even if cell phone service in the LZ had improved, and I don't find that to be true lately, the LZ phone provides an important service to the members. 1. It is a SINGLE, RELIABLE point of contact. That is, there is no ambiguity as t...

How is the glider flying? That is, is it flying straight, turns coordinate equally left and right, high/low siding equal left and right?

Seriously interested.
