Woah! That happened fast! Any dry-mouth at the end of that? :o Nice job of not panicking, and working your way back out front.

Count me amongst the interested. I've been procrastinating on doing this, but a group would provide some impetus.

Thanks,

Anyone heading out to the crestline fly in from the Sylmar LZ with a spot to spare for glider and passenger? I will pay, of course.

Sir David Attenborough had to narrate this section for me... Within this club and many clubs across a wide variety of sports and hobbies exists a culture of petty backbiting and snitching. Also commonly referred to as malicious gossip and undermining. This tragically not uncommon culture tears...

FAR 103.17

I was confused by the earlier discussion, so looked it up, and figured others may benefit from the clarification. As stated earlier, it comes down to each individual pilot being aware of the regulations and restrictions, and flying responsibly... § 103.17   Operations in certain airspace. No pe...

Ouch!

That's a real bummer, OP; beautiful X-ray though. Hope you heal quickly.

Someone on the trip also mentioned the possibility that a layer of hot air could be present near the ground which would be substantially less dense, and would manifest as a loss of lift.

Yeah... the bit just after he takes off, and the camera angle changes, that looks fake to me... there doesn't seem to be enough strain in the sail to account for the weight that is being lifted; the wing tips seem to be forced down, when the mechanism doesn't really look like it is applying any forc...

Hi Tavis, I'm not sure who the /official/ person or persons are that would normally handle that, but anyone on the BOD http://www.shga.com/bod.asp should be able to point you in the right direction. Of those listed, the Windsports guys (Joe Greblo and Fred Ballard) are usually on site teaching throu...

Glenn, We were just day tripping, and none of us (bar the brave OP) had any desire to launch that day. Those guys that flew weren't part of the Sylmar crew. They were from up the coast somewhere... Santa Barbara or Santa Cruz (or Big Sur as Tom suggested), i think. I'm not sure if they stayed out th...

Wanted: Vario

Hi guys,

Another newbie looking for a first vario... something simple would probably be perfect... just the basic functions... but anything will be considered.

Thanks,
Lin.

405 closure

Hey guys, just a reminder that July 16/17 is the 405 freeway closure, so probably very heavy traffic on Friday and possibly Monday too...

Have fun,
Lin.
