Here's a tip. The forecasts for NW wind at Kagel have been wrong a lot lately. It blew in today (Saturday). So if the forecast for NW isn't too strong, keep an open mind and consider flying Kagel.

Stuff Left Behind Sunday

If you're missing a gray harness bag, it's in the Greblo house, near the front door.

If you're missing a red cooler, or if you want free beer, it's under the pavilion, behind some gas cans. Bring ice.

A 50 degF temperature change will make about a 1 mph change in true stall speed. Pilots can decide how significant that is.

Monday: Kagel to 5 miles south of Crestline LZ

Beautiful cloud street going east from Kagel. I had 12,500 ft in front of Cucamonga but then got drilled by the Cajon Pass venturi. I guess it was blowing down at Crestline. Who knew? Good thing I didn't drive there.

My First Attempt to Post a Video

Here's my first attempt to make and post a flying video. The flight wasn't anything to brag about, but what the hell.

Report of a Stupid Landing

Here's a story about a screwed up landing that I had recently in my Litespeed S4. After sinking out, I headed for the landing zone with about enough height to do one normal pattern and land. The wind was probably 60° cross from the East, but it was light. On my upwind pass over the LZ, I hit some l...

nothing happens instantaniously; not even in a power plane.
Gusts and turbulence can happen instantly. The glider (or power plane) can't accelerate instantly in response. This can result in dangerous airspeed excursions, which was the original point of this string.

George is accounting for the inertia of the glider. It’s true that if a glider (or airplane) flying at constant trim encounters a reduction in headwind, it will tend to accelerate (with respect to the ground) to maintain airspeed. However, this acceleration doesn’t happen instantly and it doesnâ...
