Re: Unofficial Records

I know that Ken Andrews flew to the West side of the junction of the 5 & 14 from Ave S. Are you also looking for records from other sites - Blackhawk, Ord, Garlock, etc. ? Yea, I'm trying to get a more exact distance from Ken (and anyone else) who flew XC from Ave S. I think Ken's is a bit fart...

Re: PG Records

I know it wasn't Bob England (although he fly to Crestline with a HG). My best guess is that it was Ted Boyse. I do know that a couple of the guys from Santa Barbara made it from Kagel to the west side of the Cajon Pass, but couldn't get any further. While the best PG out and return I know of is 16...

The "unofficial record" site mentioned doesn't list the name of the PG pilot who went 62 miles from Kagel. I assume that that is a flight to Crestline, but am not sure. Does anyone know who did it? My guess would be that both Bob England and Ted Boyse have done it, but I could be totally w...

http://www.geocities.com/extopaflyer/US_SiteRecords.html There is no FW Out-and-return record for Kagel, so you can clim any :) The same for PG. Hmmm... intersting... That's why I asked. I KNOW that people go the West Towers-Lukens-back route a lot. I KNOW that people have done the Kagel-Wilson-bac...

Kagel out and return - What is the current record?

I'm curious what the out-and-return record is for Kagel. The longest flight that I'm aware of is from past West Towers to Mt. Harvard (in front of Wilson) and back to past West Towers. (50.1 miles, I think.) The next longest was done by several people (including Dave Cutter multiple times.) That is ...

This past Friday, I was the only one in the air all day. The forecast was for winds stronger than I will fly in, but forecasts can be wrong, and I had a driver and wouldn't be able to fly again for at least two weeks, so.... I went up, fully expecting to just drive back down again. Surprise! It wasn...

Re: Great photos. Thanks.

Great photos. Thanks. I hope PG will be allowed to fly there some day! That'd be great, but the odds aren't good. I could be wrong (I'm not a PG pilot), but the current launch doesn't look to me to be safe for a PG. And you'd have to find one that works near Glacier point. Then you'd have to set up...

The Law: http://www.ceres.ca.gov/planning/cup/condition.htm Note that a CUP has nothing to do with Building and Safety. The CUP appears to be a sort of variance to the existing zoning ordinance, not a stand-alone exception. Tha LZ is zoned as A1-1XL, which is an agricultural zoning. As far as I can...

Wednesday Wonderland

Some of our guys flew a long way this past wednesday.

Ron W. & Sebastian L. went to Crestline. Tony Deleo went to Palm Springs.

Congratulations, guys!

All I know is that Tony's flight was: 5 hours 112.5 miles

Can we get details from you all ?????

The biggest advantage of a C.U.P. or Variance is that we would fix the zoning issue for flying itself. The fact is that we could be shut down tomorrow due to zoning restrictions. That doesn't seem likely, given that everyone is currently happy with us. But, all it would take is the wrong accident, t...

I talked to Eric and what I'm about to mention didn't seem to play any part in his accident. However, I thought I'd mention it, since it happens a lot at Garlock. The prevailing winds (especially later in the day) at Garlock are strong and crossing from the right (Westerly). Often, once you get up, ...

OK - this doesn't quite match up the George's Out & Back record attempt but all 12 of us thought it was fun.......... The Sky God Award for the day goes to Max for reaching 12K just a few miles short of the airport...... Hey, I'm impressed. Every time I've gone to Garlock it has either sucked o...

Re: Gust Fronts

As always, watch out for any CuNim's in the area. In the last 2 days at Crestline/Marshall, 35+ mph gust fronts hit the Andy Jackson LZ in the afternoon. The gust fronts originated at a CuNim about 25 miles away. Foster Yep. That's what Dave means by Black Sunday. We had similar issues a few times ...

I might show up on my own Sunday. My read is that the North winds are dropping off and that Garlock should have some chance of T-storms Sunday, but not a large chance. Farther north in the Owens is another story. Reasonable chance of storms there over the Sierras. Maybe only late in the day, though....
