Just got off the phone with Steve Kroop of Flytec. Aparently I have the altitudes backwards. The pressure altimieter says I went to 18,071 feet. The GPS says 17,600 or a bit less. (It isn't obvious from the software which altitude it is showing.) The pressure altimeter was set at launch. Perhaps in...

hello, I just started lessons with Joe and Lynden and I would like to attend this if possible. Do I need to be a member of the club to attend. Also, there is a good chance I will be buying a used Falcon on 09/07 and had planned on spending the 8th at dockweiler gettting practice. Will the facility ...

I just got an email from the NAA, the folks who validate records in the US before sending them on to the FAI. It appears that there is an issue with my track log. My GPS says I went over 18,000 feet (by a small amount) and my pressure altimeter says that I never went over 17,600 feet. My instrument ...

Yosemite Aug 4/5

If anyone cannot make the club trip (or even if you can!), my wife and I are going up on August 4/5. I am a new monitor there, so if you want to fly, please sign up at: http://yhga.org/signup.html I'm not trying to grab folks from Barton, but if you want to go a different weekend (or both), that one...

Re: Elsinore LZ reopens (sort-of)

Details here: http://www.theeteam.org/eteam2.htm And people say that there are too many rules at Kagel! ;-) Seriously, we owe a debt of gratitude to those who pushed to get us to clean up our act early. (See http://www.shga.com/history.asp ) Otherwise we'd be in the same boat (or worse) as Elsinore...

Could you see any new water in the Owens River, result of diversion from the aqueduct? I thought I could in Google Earth, but not sure. I honestly didn't look. However, the river seemed greener than I remember and there was lots more water in the Owens Lake than last year. And I got really lucky. T...

I didn't really almost tumble, but I was climbing at over 1000 fpm in a 'smooth as a baby's bottom' thermal when all of a sudden I was rotated 90 degrees in yaw and pointed almost straight down. Oh, and the air was very quiet. No wind noise. During the "rotation" I yanked the bar in, so I...

At that moment I stopped wishing I was up there with him and happy to be on the ground.....poor guy. 50 miles and two hours later George was back on the ground in prett...

By the way, for those who want to know, the route and distance, here it is. For others, just ignore this post. Launch Walts Point. Get up. Fly ESE (passing over Timosea Peak) to about 2 miles South of Bartlet (What folks call the "Cement Factory", even though that isn't what it is.) Back t...

Flew Tuesday. Got up right away and headed out to the flats to get the start point. Got sick. Tried not to fill my helmet. Succeeded. Got no lift on the way out or back. Arrived significantly too low back at the mountains. Found a bit of lift and tried to work it. South wind had picked up, and betwe...

That is the best idea I have heard so far. Seems obvious now. I'll be darned. I agree with both you AND Christian at the same time. Will miracles never cease! Seriously, as much as I am still attracted to Option C, it does make sense to have the toilets separate. And a concrete block building (or c...

I'm lucky so far. I have trouble lately with a few things up close, but my instruments are far enough away and the size of the text is large enough that I can read them. So far. I DO have to turn the volume up all the way on my Flytec, though. 75% isn't quite enough. And on my old tangent, I could b...

Like I give a shit... Such a well-reasoned and helpful reply. It is so clear and well-argued, that I'll have to change my opinion. How could anyone NOT change their minds after such a convincing argument? By the way, on the way up the hill today, I had a conversation with another ex-BOD member. We ...

I am all in favor of option C for the reasons others have posted quite eloquently. However, I DO agree with the comment I have repeatedly heard that the way the space is arranged is too broken up. Maybe it just appears that way because I haven't seen an overhead view, but maybe not. In any case, I t...
