Nice one, Sebastian. ~~~~~ When you start talking codes and ADA, $25K will probably just about cover the cost of the two restroom signs. In 1931, we completed the Empire State Building in under 15 months (3 months ahead of schedule), 40% under budget and it remained the tallest building in the world...

I agree that proper restrooms would be the next logical improvement. If so, I think we should not be too skimpy about them. We should size them with events in mind, not just the normal usage. Not only for our own events, but to accommodate groups that we could rent the facility out to. This could be...

It is very cool of Alarcon to make this happen. I don't know how he was informed of the need, but someone deserves some credit for that. Lord knows we need the money, and I think the club is overwhelmingly a force of good in the community that raises the image, property values and economic activity....

A major part of the experience of SHGA is the people. Many memories over decades that I would like to see memorialized in some permanent way there. The place only exists because of the people who came before us. It needs to be sensible in scale and placement, but we could do that. At the very least ...

I agree with the idea of a plaque or other memorial rather than naming the entire structure. I'd be happy to make that memorial if needed. This brings up an issue that I think is quickly developing a need for a club policy: How to memorialize past members or others we may want to honor. We already h...

Thank you, Tom Cornelius
Probably your last accomplishment was for our benefit. It is beautiful work, and some of us even learned some valuable skills from you while you did it. I didn't know you well, but I could see the kind of man you were: Kind, honest, generous, unassuming, and capable. We will miss you. Thanks, and Go...

I'm assuming it will include a realistic demonstration of a failed deployment including prolonged screaming and flailing. Wouldn't it suck if it happened to me now after mouthing off about it here. Well it would suck for me, but the rest of you would probably find it pretty damned funny. Go ahead an...

On Wikipedia, in almost unintelligible English, Governador Valadares, a Brazilian city in the state of Minas Gerais, claims the title too. We can't let that stand. They don't even speak American there! I bet they don't even eat Pop Tarts like all real red-blooded pilots do. See, they've been reading...

Terminal velocity, being a function of drag, increases in thinner air. If he was high enough he could break the sound barrier before falling into the denser air which would slow him down. Awesome at any speed. Just think about how wild it is for a terrestrial mammal to figure out a way to get into s...

I'm looking to hire someone to redesign a couple websites. One is a simple static site just listing some information and photos. The other is a web commerce site written currently in PHP that works (mostly), but needs updated and given some style. They were both done by amateurs with no experience s...

Janyce, if you think another site is a better choice for the title, then just name it, and make your case. Let's see how it strands up to the history, provenance, attendance, or whatever criteria you want to offer. All the sites in the world can't be equivalent on these things. One has to be more qu...
