If we had bought a motion sensor camera when the idea came up a few months ago, the perpetrator would probably be serving his first year of a 2 year jail sentence and paid a $500,000 fine for vandalizing property on federal lands. And just as we are reading this post he is probably bending over in t...

Online glider storage proposal
I was proposing running the glider storage system on an old server I obtained. Payments would be made online with either Visa, paypal, bank transfer, or as a last resort by check. Renewal notices would be sent automatically by email and actual postal mail as a last resort with extreme past due amoun...

Electric Atos Hang Glider by Werner Eck - youtube video
I posted this clip on youtube of a German pilot, Toni Roth, flying an Atos with an electric mosquito type powered harness. Notice how quiet it is. At the end he disassembles harness motor and battery. I read that Werner Eck developed this new direct drive electric motor that doesn't need gear reduct...

Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall! We should eliminate any political boundaries with the landing strip. They do not seem useful and actually can increase danger. I know of no other landing strip that has them. It is more important to insert yourself into a proper and safe final approach rather than...

Somehow the grass looks greener now. Maybe we can cover the wood chips with soil, extend the sprinklers and grow grass there. Ive seen a number of broken down tubes over 4 years on that padded bank and no noticeable injury. It would be a shame to see it all rocky. Again thanks to Joe, Chip and Rober...

This is a few miles from our launch, somewhere south of the Wildlife Waystation I read. It looks under control but the Santa Anna winds will ultimately determine everything.

Low save from 2000 feet msl over the LZ
Sunday I made it back to the volcano from locals at 3400'msl but was quickly down to 3000' so I turned in to the LZ. The ground was wet from Saturdays rain and there was no lift. I was admiring the newly manicured and wider LZ from directly over the runway between the numbers and ramp at 2000' msl w...

It is a shame both the San Gabriel and Santa Monica mountains are closed to motocross riders. If responsible clubs existed that policed their members with staying on designated trails and kept proper spark arrestors it might be allowed. But its not. However you can ride here: Hungry Valley State Veh...

This would be third on my priority list just behind modifying the Coke machine to take Canadian quarters, and an electric aluminum can crusher so more cans will fit in the recycle bins. In a way its nice to be out of range and not bothered by outside communications. But in reality I am one of those ...

Helicopter rescue, Walter landed behind the ridge
Walter landed behind the ridge today and the camp 9 helicopter was called in for a rescue. Another glider saw the landing and that Walter was moving but he still could have been injured. We watched from the LZ with binoculars and it seemed as if Walter was trying to evade capture by making his way d...
