Re: Emergency Procedures

By popular demand, the mountain rescue procedure has been placed into the launch site first aid kit, located on the north side of the wooden bench. This procedure outlines what to say to a 911 operator to get a Los Angeles County rescue helicopter in the air without delay. The GPS coordinates for la...

New LZ Drinking Fountain

As promised, there is now a filtered water (carbon) drinking fountain attached to the south end of the outdoor utility sink. Below is a description from Wikipedia as to what carbon removes and does not remove: Active charcoal carbon filters are most effective at removing chlorine, particles such as ...

New LZ Telescope

Just wanted to let everyone know of the new telescope mounted on top of the $ collection post. It can be moved around to view anywhere you might want to look or watch launches. This is the type of telescope that can weather the outdoor environment and was donated to the club by Joe Greblo. Also Jim ...

New Refridgerator/freezer in LZ for All Members

The old (dead) freezer and filthy min-fridge have been removed and a new (slightly used) refrigerator/freezer has replaced them. Also the microwave oven has been placed on top. The whole stack is located to the right side of the soda machine for easy access. Everything is very clean and ready for us...

Re: Gridley Street Neighbors

Although the BOD totally supported this, the idea was brought to our attention by Cathy Thompson. She and her partners, Kat Shaw and Nancy Robertson, did a fantastic job as our events coordinators, giving us great events without breaking the bank. What a great last gesture on her (and partners) part...

Joe, Firstly, I agree with MOST everything Jim has stated. We would NOT accept any other liability insurance other than the USHPA's because we can't trust it to pay. As far as a $1,000,000 personal bond, I suppose we could consider that if and when it is presented. Secondly, we don't support USHPA, ...

The reason that we are not inviting non-USHPA flyers to drop in on SHGA property comes down to one thing -liability insurance. Although it is not a common occurrence, houses have been struck by hang gliders in the past and there is always the potential to injure a spectator. Our club is at risk of b...

Today I test flew the Saturn 167 that will be auctioned during the Dahlsten Cup on Sept 29th. Here are my impressions: First of all, I am lowering my opinion of the overall condition of the glider from very good to "good". The reason for lowering the overall rating is because the leading e...
