I just read this fun factoid off the back cover of the June 2008 issue of Skiing Heritage magazine. Some skier's "invented" a biplane-type hang glider, and it worked! Except, apparently for steering and landing. Check out the jpg below. The text is worth the quick read.

After watching that video, I'm surprised there is anyone left alive from that era. I wouldn't fly one of those things with no chute, helmet, shoes, or sense anywhere other than the beach. You old farts were freaking crazy, and the weed wasn't even that good.
