Batteries from HobbyKing and other places

Post by Joey »

Hey Phill I would recommend the LifePo4 batteries for you , There are a bit more stable then Lipo batteries.
Otherwise I believe you already have a Lipo charger so your familiar with them.
I Like the batteries from Hobbyking, they seem to have the best prices and they work very will.
And there's the WPS Featherweight-Lithium-Ion Motorcycle battery. check it out.
Here is other site to check out.

The feather weight one is only 1.1 pounds. Looks like the answer.

The motors have some kind of limiter switch that maybe shuts them off after the VG is pulled on full. what happens if the motor keeps going?

Phill,
I have that same linear actuator that I purchased for the same thing, 8" stroke to match the xbar travel, no more! just be aware that if you run out of battery and the VG in on it will not release the tension.
I mounted it near the CG to a keel bracket and connected the servo to the x-bar with a cable.
Apco HG in Israel used a similar design, Gil L. had one integrated into his XS
and worked well.

Thanks Juan, I tried that APCO system when Erwin had it. I used a car battery and it did not have enough power for my Light Speed.

Just spoke to Greg Kendal and the big question is how much force is needed? Greg thinks 20:1 reduction @ maybe 20lb. That should be 400lb. of force. What do you think?

Sorry, I was referring to Gil L. system not yours.
Also if the actuator is pushing it should take vary little power to retract, right?
Doug, a limit switch is an excellent idea, but might not be needed if the actuator is the correct length.
