HAM Licensing Class

Post by Jim »

Tired of being a pirate? Want to avoid the "you can't talk if you don't have a license" speech when you buy 2-meter equipment without a call sign?

The Independent Radio Club is sponsoring a Technician Class and Test on October 15-16 for a mere $50 (+$15 test fee). It will be in Eagle Rock and I heard there is plenty of room in the class with instructors provided to accommodate the number of students.

If you are interested, PM me with your address and I will send you a scan of the form to mail-in with your fee. Or you can check their website at

I'd encourage people to do this. Ham radio is very much like hang gliding, in as much as the government (FCC in their case, FAA in ours) has delegated running the use of a segment of a resource to the recreational community involved. They can lose their playground just as much as we can lose ours, and for similar reasons. If someone breaks the rules and causes a problem, suddenly the spotlight is on, and new rules start getting made.
