Looking for a Safety Mascot
I'm looking for suggestions for a "Safety Mascot", to include a catchy name and an icon or photo. Examples: Bucky the Safety Beaver, Suzie Safety, etc.
Cameron Condor, etc. Sorry, I'm not that creative.
So it's a contest! Put on your creative thinking caps. The winner get's bragging rights and his icon will replace my ugly mug on the home page of our website.
Cheers!

That alone is a reason to come up with something appropriate!Steve90266 wrote:... will replace my ugly mug on the home page of our website.

'Swifty B. Safe'Steve90266 wrote:So hit me with it Don! What have you got?
Swifts are a good omen and you never see them crash and burn in spite of their maniacal flying. Now we need Harry Martin to draw up a caricature. I can take a stab at it but if you thought my flying sucked then wait to you see me draw a caricature of a swift.
Yours Truly,
Don

Crash McLanahan
The idea is to NOT be like him. He's been in every situation, so been there done that. Unfortunately, he's had to learn from experience. However, we'd like our pilots to learn from the mistakes of others instead of making them.
I think it makes it fun, entertaining, and informational all at the same time.

Safety Mascot
I like Crash too! Now we just need a logo or cartoon to go with Crash and Swifty.
I'm thinking about Susie Safety, but the ladies in the club might find the logo I'm thinking of a little distasteful.
Keep it going! Let's hear from the ladies!

The Chicken makes a better safety mascot because it has so many predators it has to be very careful and rely on its skill or it will end up eaten. The Ladybug on the other hand has no predators because its color signals it is poison. The Ladybug can rely on luck alone, not so for the chicken.
edit:
Predator not predictor, thx Tom, Darn Federation Spellcheckers.

Likely Steve maybe thinking of a magazine from his flying days with the Marines. The Navy and Marine corps have a Naval Aviation Safety magazine where a featured section from "Grandpa Pettibone" would "review" mishaps or near mishaps and comment on them.
In reality, it was a safety group that compiled these stories and made them entertaining and informative.

Hmmmmm, A 'Pre-Flight Pat' is what the TSA lady gave me at LAX and I didn't even get her phone number.daynachip wrote:How About "Pre-Flight Pat"? An Androgynous Parrot? Colorful, Universal, & Covers Both Genders ..
Believe it or not Dayna, the club already has a safety mascot and he exists in the signature line of every post penned by Joe Greblo. Here is our current safety mascot:
His name is Michael Robertson and he is the author of an excellent system for increasing safety while still enjoying flying: http://www.flyhigh.com/reliability.html
I don't even know who else knows about this beside Greblo. Why isn't my accident rate lower? Well, it is lower than it would be if I wasn't aware of our mascot's methodology as well as the FAA course on aeronautical decision making. http://www.faa.gov/library/manuals/avia ... r%2017.pdf
I don't know how much better things will get with a mascot as compared to how much we need to openly discuss how we successfully prevented accidents along with how we applied either Robertson's or the FAA's methodology to our flying and to our peers.
If Michael Robertson's smiling face or an androgynous parrot (named after a Julia Sweeney skit on SNL) as our safety mascot helps accomplish that then so much the better.
