Saturday's close call

On Saturday, I was flying over Locals at around 3800 feet when I saw a 737 behind Camp 9 at 4300 feet, heading at me and descending. I had 30 seconds to get out of the way before it came through my location, so I turned away from its flight path and dove. It crossed 200' or so over the location I had been at when I spotted it, and I was around 1000' away at closest approach.

Most air traffic for BUR approaches from the west and lands on runway 8, however an occasional plane will land on 15 to save on time/fuel. Usually these are smaller jets (Jet Suite X and similar), this is the first time I've seen a 737 use this approach.

Here's a link to the track data for the flight involved:

Here's an animation of the incident, using my log data and ADS-B data from FlightAware:

Closest approach occurs @ 21:47 UTC

The takeaway here is always keep your head on a swivel for planes, even in areas and altitudes that you wouldn't expect them to be.
Big thanks to Vresh for calling the approaching craft out, you gave me some extra time to get out of the way.

Yikes! Good job dodging that one. And Vrezh, good job on the call. I'll be upping my effort to scan the horizon, and flying with a radio.

Yeah, sure,
you are welcome!
Friends don't let friends get smacked by a 737 :D
