More Than A Repack - Betty Pfeiffer Parachute Clinic

Post by Lynn McLaughlin »

For the past several months I've been working on creating a parachute clinic that would include more than a repack. Led by Betty Pfeiffer, the day-long clinic will include learning how to repack your own parachute, several practice throws and learning emergency procedures. Thanks to Ken and his juggling instructor I have lined up LA Valley College as our venue, Mike of LA Stunts as our rigging specialist, Betty Pfeiffer of High Energy Sports will instruct and we've set a date of January 16, 2010.

During these hard economic times, I think it's important to keep our costs down and make this important clinic as affordable as possible to as many pilots as possible. But, we have a minimum that must be met in order to cover the basic costs. I need a "show of hands" to get a sense of the interest level. Please reply to the following:

What is your level of interest in attending a day-long parachute and emergency procedures clinic on a scale of 1-5?
(1= not at all interested; 3=maybe; 5= definitely interested)

Would you be willing to pay $40 for the clinic? (Yes or No)

If not, how much would you pay for a day-long parachute clinic?

Thanks for taking the time to reply. I value the feedback. Stay tuned for further details.

Personally, I agree and we'll get practice throws and emergency education for the price of a repack! I'm looking for 20 participants and 7 volunteers. I hope we have enough interest to make this happen..,.

5 $40 is very reasonable, If it's anything like Betty does at her shop you hang in your harness practice controlling rotation, pull and deploy your chute.
With a lot of what if instruction.

I have attended 4 of Betty's clincs. It is well worth the $40. My intrest level is 3.14159 (a very important number) depending on the date.

Just a quick question on this. If this is a repack clinic, will we learn all we need to know to do repacks of our own chutes for just this clinic, or will we learn enough to always be able to repack on our own. I am in need of a repack and hopefully it wont happen on the same day as the speed gliding event on 01/30/10.. please so I can do both...

The clinic is schedule for Saturday January 16, 2010 at LA Valley College. We will need payment by no later than 1/10/10. Stay tuned for further details on payment process. OR BRING YOUR PAYMENT TO THE SHGA HOLIDAY PARTY THIS COMING SATURDAY :D

By the end of the clinic you will know how to repack your own parachute, if you choose to do so. Some participants may not choose to learn how to repack their own shoot. All participants will get practice throws, experience various emergency situations and learn the appropriate emergency procedures. All pilots will leave with your parachute repacked.

I have HJoe lined up to be one of our qualified repackers. Betty will teach the repacking. I need 2 more qualified repack volunteers. We will also need other volunteers for various roles (packing assistant, turbulators, lunch set up helper, Practice throw helper). If you are available to volunteer or know someone who might be interested in helping us, please contact me directly.

Further details will be posted as they become available. Feel free to call me if you have any questions.

PS ~ I wish I did not feel the need to make this clarification but, emergency situations will be simulated (of course you knew that :) )
