RLF Clinic - Sat March 7 & Sun March 8

Post by Lynn McLaughlin »

RLF Clinic
Saturday March 7th & Sunday March 8th
8am - ?? (All day, both days)

This clinic is open to all H3's & H4's. High-hour H2's may participate with instructor approval.

Cost: Approx $40/day for the two rides up to launch.

We need to get a solid head count for this clinic because it includes coordinating enough vehicles to accommodate all the pilots.

Please reply to this post to confirm or contact me directly if you have questions.

Soon we fly!

Audit option for H2s

Post by Frederick »

This RLF clinic is fabulous, and there's another option for those not ready for RLFs: "audit" the ground school portion of it.

Show up at 8am Saturday, and hear H Joe's ground school on landings -- part will be in the Pavillion, and part on-site at some bail-out LZs.

Really fabulous to see the bail-out LZs and hear different people speak about what they'd consider in setting up landings at these bail-outs. And even better to then hear Hungary Joe's perspective.

I did the clinic last year, and then had a super time landing in a little clear strip between the horse fence and bushes when I couldn't find the LZ my first time flying in Santa Barabara, 6 weeks later : )

UPDATE:

Due to anticipated Santa Ana winds this weekend, HJoe is modifying the clinic schedule for this Saturday, March 7th.

Ground School will begin at 11am in the Gazebo (not 8am as originally scheduled) Then we will walk some bail-out LZ's.

If the winds are favorable on Sunday we will will have the opportunity to walk the remaining bail-out LZ`s and have 2 of the 4 required landings for the RLF sign off.

Check here for further updates.

It's looking pretty questionable both days.

What's the clinic look like if it's not flyable at all?

Windguru shows Sunday blowing in lightly while NWS shows blowing NE lightly. I expect Sunday to be launchable. Saturday shows moderate NE and therefore launchable for anyone willing to use the old wooden ramp on the North side. I wish everyone the best on the RLF clinic and hope it helps more pilots expand their horizons.

To the following pilots working with HJoe for your RLF sign off:

Terry H
Kevin K
Tom S
Marshall
Ken M
Steve M

NO FLYING TOMORROW (Sat 3/14/15)

HJoe will be in the LZ this coming Sunday to observe your landings. He recommends you go for two landings that day. Please make your own arrangements to get to launch.

I will not be around this this Sunday so please call Joe directly if you have questions.

Soon you fly!

No flying on Pi day? Why? I think it will turn and blow in on Saturday.

Okay, Greg! You're one of our top pilots so I "hear ya!" Hope you're right. Are you checking USAirnet/Van Nuys? It's quite reliable... Regardless, for purposes of pilots going for RLF observed landings, HJoe will be in LZ this coming Sunday...

Watching and hoping for Saturday flying...
