Fun and Flying in Santa Barbara, Nov. 25-27

Post by hgflyboy »

In an effort to revive an old tradition, there are a group of pilots headed to Santa Barbara to fly over the Thanksgiving weekend. So far the group includes myself, Ken Andrews, and Lisa. The current plan is to get there on Friday and leave Sunday. We are being hosted by John Gerynald, long-time Santa Barbara pilot and ex Regional Director. We will fly either the Eliminator or the Alternator, landing in the appropriate LZ.

As John says, “Be Parma-ready. This is NOT a trip for students. There will be no instructor available for mentorship. The upper Parma LZ is considered by the locals as an H-4 LZ and you may be landing there.

Obviously this trip is weather dependent. Many times when there are Santa Ana conditions at Sylmar, Santa Barbara is soarable. We won’t know what to expect until mid-next week so if you’re interested in coming, check back here for updates.

While flying Santa Barbara is cool, just being there is too. There’s plenty to do—good food, hiking, beachcombing, sightseeing--and this trip is an opportunity to get away from the usual and enjoy a weekend away.

Several of us are planning on staying at the Motel 6 in Goleta. The rates are good and sharing a room makes them even better. Currently they are running around $90 a night. It’s a holiday weekend so plan ahead and make reservations early. There is also an option to camp at El Capitan State Beach in Goleta.

If you wanna' come along, post a note on this thread and maybe we can coordinate roomates, rides, drivers, etc. I hope lotsa' you Kagelites will join the fun!
