Thanks Mario, I guess you can fly HG as well, I saw few, but it would be hard to arrange for transportation after XC and LZs (except the primary) are pretty bad even for PG with many power lines running across all possible directions.

I flew from Marshall to Kagel, intersect with Greg somewhere around Monrovia Peak. Highlight of the flight was flying above Cucamonga Peak.

Why is SW so much worse than SE? Look at the map to see which air-mass will bring SW versus SE winds. Here is 2 wiki articles, which maybe helpful to understand why sea breeze develops and how it affect our soaring: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sea_breeze http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Inversion_(met...

Do strong Santa Ana events like these (I'm going off the temp change here) make for great soaring days after? Always. The only variable is how fast SW breeze will kick in, could be half day or 2-3 hours, after it arrives it kill all greatness. Marshall is further from ocean, so its normally hold go...

I'm wondering if this is a PG record for Kagel?
Yes, it is.

And here is a video from that day mixed with SeeYou animation:

Glad you ok Rob. Could you share more details what happened after you realize that you unhooked? Just let it go and fell or did you steer into the hill side?

Kagel is the best option for launching PG in this area, easy to get a ride there from LZ, just make sure you launch early (11:00-13:00) because it gets windy later in the day.

Why do you want to launch from Big T or Towers?

I actually reported my location when I was over Geason, probably not very clear, since even Jonathan can't understand me.
When I made it close to Crystal airport around 5:40 I also try to call you on radio, but no reply and I did not see any HG in the airport.

I don't think that ultralight vehicles excluded from this rule, at least its my understanding. You can double check with FAA. Asking a question cost nothing, penlty for violations could be quite serious. Please let us know what they think :)

Looks perfectly legal to me. In the link you provided: http://www.aopa.org/asf/publications/sa02.pdf Go to page 5: Airspace in Detail: Class C ...To operate inside or above Class C airspace, all aircraft are required to have a Mode C transponder (up to 10,000 msl)... I wish I was in shape to hike like that too Stop wishing, start hiking. Its that easy. There is good hike to Lukens Mt. from the north side, trail is not in the great shape and was not maintaind after fire, but still passable. Another good hike in this area is to Condor Peak. Its always good idea t...
