I just had a good visit with Ron at his home. It blew me away when he greeted me at the door and said my name. We had a long conversation, mostly about all of his hang gliding friends. He already knew about OP. He still gets confused at times, but he remembers a lot. I told him that I flew yesterday...

It’s been mentioned that my hook-in verification technique is to establish a line that cannot be crossed without checking everything. It’s also been mentioned that it’s doing repeated checks on launch. Actually, it’s both of those things, plus hooking in at the setup location. The idea is ma...

I like the running on flat ground idea. For that, I think I want to replace my carbon base tube with something more expendable (and maybe with wheels).

Blown Launch at Kagel

My name is Greg and I’m a launch blower. That’s twice now. The first time was 25 years ago on the training hill. The second time was Saturday at Kagel. I attempted to launch from the paraglider launch in moderately gusty afternoon conditions. I waited a while until the wind was straight in and a...

The only assurance I have that USHPA won't “continue their practice of failing to address problems reported by members is that they can’t. The reason for contributing directly to the RRG is that it shows commitment. Saying “we have this money that we might contribute, but there are strings ...

I’d rather fly than engage in discussion over the politics of flying, but given the lack of great flying conditions this time of year, I’ll make an exception. I think Bob has a point. The root of this insurance crisis is safety. Clearly, our recent record is not good enough. All of us, including...

I thought I’d share what I do for hook-in verification just in case it might be useful to someone. My system has been working for me for about 20 years now. If you’re a new pilot, talk to your instructor before following any advice that I might give. The theme here is redundancy through doing mu...

Nice video and nice flight. I'm not crazy about the mushed approach. Even a T2C (or a Litespeed) can get a crap L/D if you rock upright and pull in to about 40 mph.

Great photo and great flight(s) (to all of the M to S crew), especially given that bit of a headwind component.

Here's my book report. On Saturday, the GFS weather model (as viewed in XC Skies) said it would be good and high all day along the San Gabrials, while the NAM model said high clouds from the West would shut down the lift. Once in the air, it looked like the GFS was more accurate. I climbed to 10K be...
