I'm in a class all that weekend, but found Betty's instruction (less-extensive than this clinic, at her shop) tremendously useful. I give it a 5 star recommendation! Lets hear it for staying alive!

Go forth!

The gazebo is still a great idea. Extra glider storage will be great, too. I'm most interested in this benefit: Giving our club more permanence on the land, and having a nicer place for folks who are visiting. I think we need all the support we can possibly get, and then some, as an urban flight par...

Oh, I love this idea! Class-flying. Falcons seem great to me -- I'm having a ball on mine and still growing my skills after 200 hours (I haven't flown a double-surface before). Sounds like they're more-responsive, and give better feedback on air nuances. (Dave Cutter discusses those in his flying in...

Stall

Now, it seems like that's a great video of how much altitude loss there is with a stall and recovery -- something I hadn't a great sense for before.

Sure glad he made it. I don't want to do any more memorial services.

Tone judgement

I read results of a study showing the tone of emails was misjudged 50% of the time, and view that as the inharent weaknesses of the text medium. Thank you, to everyone for their contributions on these important forum topics. I appreciate them. Greblo and I have discussed a danger of max. speed: it p...

Photos of the Redtail Hawk release 9/13 ??

Hello, Jeff Craig's family (especially those who couldn't make the event) would love photos of the amazing release of the red-tail hawk in the LZ after the memorial service 9/13. Would you please send those to me, and I'll combine them with the other photos and deliver them all. Seemed there were a ...

Jeff Craig

! ! ! This sorrow doesn't express in words. Jeff has been a great friend of mine and pilot for the years he's been flying -- part of my group of six. He had such a continually bubbling-up positive energy in him that he was always a joy to be around. Even the way he talked about his post-heart-attack...

Yes

I was in favor of investing in exploration when 2 years ago, on the board, I heard it might cost up to $40-50k. It seemed like such a significant legal issue for us. I think we have to vigilently manage the special issues of being an urban flying site (the last remaining one). Thanks to all who have...

Another Jet encounter!

Yesterday, I was flying at 4310', almost up the ridge to the missle silo site above towers, heard a strange sound, looked up and saw a Southwest going directly above me, 300-400' up. I'd read Malury's post of 3950' last week, but didn't think I was high enough above the ground yet to start looking f...

Hang 3 technique ahh-haas

Valuable things I didn't understand for 435 flights/170 hours of airtime: Quadruple penalty of not touching down soon enough on landing: 1. If you refuse to start moonwalking at the necessary time, you put the glider into a stall and when you are forced to start running, you'll have to run harder, f...

Great idea

This getting to know each other subject was discussed quite a bit at the board meetings 1-2 years ago -- a recognized opportunity. I chewed on it a lot back then. I think doing pilot profiles is great -- with LZ-recognizable photos. Then the new (and even prospective) pilots can get a feel for what ...

Neurology

I'm interested in understanding human perception, and methods needed to counteract deficiencies and keep up safe flying. I notice that it's a neurological requirement that we lose awareness of things once we've been around them awhile: else we'd have all our attention absorbed by the first round of ...

I still think I was the first one to say how great Chris' site is.

He didn't design it in his personal style preferences, btw, but in what he thought would be good/nice for the club.

Congrats, Chris. We really use all this functionality a bunch now (instead of emailing...).

Safety personnas (Sharks)

FYI I kind of try to require for myself a shark-like approach to safety matters: I once heard that sharks will turn away from any prey that fights back. That's most effective for their survival. But funny, because they're so powerful. I work at grooming a shark personna in myself to use for the safe...

Heli flying notes (Mosquito flying...)

For any other inquiring minds: I went to the Pasadena Police heliport open house and got these interesting bits from a pilot. * "The D Curve" (fly below it and you'll die): they need 60mph or 500ft of elevation, in one model of heli, to autorotate in the event of an engine failure. So they...

Fantabulous!

Hey that's great!! I think we don't need the table this year because BJ is bringing I think 6 of them -- lots. But the grill is fabulous (I've been worried. I'll pick up coal in tomorrow night's shopping run.

Congrats on the comp flying!
