A week and a half and I still can't find any mention of it beyond the very basic description in the above link. I'm intrigued by the simple mystery of it. I've spent many hours up there alone over the years just contemplating life and I feel the need to know who he was, how he died, and why. I would...

Janyce, aren't you banned for life from flying on Thanksgiving Day? The "Cold Turkey act of 2007" is still the law in Elsinore.

A reminder per the President's earlier post: "The board will match member contributions 1 to 1 to a maximum of 300 dollars. So, if a member contributes 20 dollars, the board will match with 20 dollars. This level will cover the 600 dollar budget estimate. ... Katherine Yardley has agreed to tra...

For some reason, I get pleasure from watching that and I'm ashamed. Still, I watched it over and over. Thank you. I wish the camera showed the wind direction at the end.

BTW none of this precludes the grass runway idea, just where to put it and the approach to it. I love grass. Some are exploring the feasibility of drilling a well which would make a virtual Haight/Ashbury of grass possible at very low cost. Here is my preferred LZ with the approach that I and many o...

Thursday I went to the LZ and did a lot of measuring and analysis with Joe Greblo. We realized the 200 ft line is way out to the center of the H4 runway at the entrance gate (the houses' closest point)( I call the pinch point). We decided a good faith compromised line that goes from the windsock ove...

That must be a typo, Joe. Hang 4s...6ft wide strip? You meant 60 ft right? I mean were talk hang 4s here. I like the grass idea, but If we are successful in growing grass around the strip, the strip would just disappear into the rest of the lawn. If we embed pavers flush and paint them, it would be ...

The LZ has changed a bit since the fire and is a little more roomy than before, especially in the H2 LZ. I'll come out this week and survey a little and maybe we can put a point on this project. A limited set of markers with low maintenance as described would be very easy. I think we need at minimum...

I agree with all of that Joe. Our LZ is a pretty unforgiving in that it has hazards on all sides and close in. It's very important to stay centered and on track. I think maybe the ambiguity of exactly where that is can be distracting. The frequent changes to the LZ's shape and condition amplifies th...

After review, the last revision centerline is where our 200 ft line needs to be at the north end, so we could simply have only the centerline. Plilots would follow it but not cross it, and end up centered on the runway at touchdown.

The revised image should meet requirements, as Joe stated them. Line Marking: The lines as laid out so far comprise over 3000 ft. That makes most permanent options very expensive. Embedded bricks, tiles or gravel would all involve a level of work and money that is more than I want to expend personal...

Here's a revision using the houses themselves to measure the 200 ft line. This gives a little more and allows a runway extension line out to the north streamer for pilots to line up with the runway and stay east of the 200 ft. line. Thanks for the help, NMERider. Joe, any imput? http://farm4.static....

Sorry for the scale error, I should have been sleeping. But it sure made the LZ bigger. I have repaired it and here is the revised one with lines moved. http://www.flickr.com/photos/bagoh20/2961579073/ It turns out that the north streamer location is on the 200 ft line. It works out well as an ancho...

I'll explore materials and costs to evaluate some options and present them in this thread. If anyone else has any suggestions please add them here. The easiest would be white lines using a material that would kill and prevent plant growth where the line is. If we do this, I would build or buy a devi...
