New and Improved Winds of a Hurricane

Years ago, early in my flying days, Grant Hoag put together annual flying trips to Hurricane UT. We had some great groups and great flying over spectacular places with some XC flights over a hundred miles. It's one of the best flying sites in the country and has remained one of my top places to fly....

Who?

Greg Kendall, of course. If he has any shred of decency, he will write a flight report post.

cross controling

Thanks for the videos, Jonathan. I have to say though, I'm always struck by how much cross controlling you do. ...and once again, by the nail-biting conclusion of course.

Towers

First of all, you should know that we all fly around there all the time. It's not as if it is a deadly place that must be avoided. It is the radio towers just across the dam from the Kagel launch. More specifically, it's the area around that point out in front of the towers, called Contract Point on...

Towers

Thanks for the correction, at least they both start with M. You're right, it is generally nastiest over there on any day. Maybe it's just the Spring conditions or a particularly unstable day like Saturday was, but any day where the conditions are not typical you really can expect the unexpected over...

Towers in March

I may be just superstitious but I am very leery of flying around the Towers this time of year. Flying Saturday was on the windy side but the air was generally smooth and the lift was light. Most of my flying was VG on, doing gentle circles and fingertip flying along lift lines. Around the Towers I g...

Deadyet?

Well, this is getting funny.
I thought this thread was a response to my e-blast cracks about the forum being dead. Leave it to Barton and BK to find an opening to rant at each other.

Look, I don't care at all about what gets discussed on here, I just like to see a little life so have at it.

Ah Barton, now you've done it. That's all it takes to start a 6 month campaign.

Remember rule 1.

Kagel closure

Since this is not very clear, I thought I should post that the TFR for the Creek fire is lifted, BUT the road to Kagel and the launch are still closed until February as of this posting. Check back here to see if it there are any changes.

King Mtn. trip

View from the lower launch at King. A flat slope that bit us twice. https://goo.gl/photos/dsJaXFY3iKBKprKm7 Either Effie has two heads or that's Sparky in the background. You can see some of the smoke that was present there. Fires all around Idaho and Oregon for the last weeks. https://goo.gl/photos...

King Mtn. trip

I thought I would recap our trip to King Mtn. for those who couldn't make it. You missed a really good time. First there was Hurricane. Greg (me) Arthur and Will got to Hurricane ready to fly on Saturday afternoon, the 12th. Things didn't work out that day but we did some exploring. Sunday we set up...

The River

...and Greg confirms both statements. Nice flying both Saturday and Sunday with a big waterfall to fly by and nice floating as well. Marshall was quite stoked to get his first flights from Glacier Point. Very cool new T-shirts this year happily replacing the old ones with the outsized glider drawing...

Any report on conditions there? Will flying be possible? Park Service says the campground should open Aug. 1.

Idaho or bust

Ken (and others?),
What about a 1 way ticket to Boise on Sunday 8-20. I'll be there to pick up Nurit and head back to King. You could then hook up with someone for the ride back to LA. One way to Boise on 8-20: $179 today.
