It's not a fishing net, it's camouflage netting. The Army uses it to create shade structures in places like Iraq, which I understand is a pretty sunny place. But, whatever......

Much as I admire Joe's dedication, I have to say I think trying to catch these vandal(s), alone, in the dark, miles from any help, is something I would NOT recommend. I think the deployment just stalled the glider.

The wind gradient must have been a major factor. Because of the hillside, the gradient rose up to meet him as he deployed. Bad timing.

The rising terrain may also make the dive appear more severe than it was.

Look at the aerial pictures: the area that is worst is the area that gets zero shade and also has the highest foot traffic. AJ is the same, look at the base of the bunny slope and the rest of the typical landing area there. You just don't notice as much because the breakdown area is so far away.... ...
