How about calling it the "Kagel Air Races", and call the "Course for the Day"?
Or "Kagel Air Rallye"? It is in stages after all.
"Race" and "Course" sounds more fun and interesting
than "Comp" and "Task"....

(the forum cut off the last part, here it is...) (cont.) Some times pilots who try to do this, make the mistake of relaxing this yaw force at the moment they start their run. This mistake causes the glider to begin to yaw back into the wind and lift the wing. The trick is to continue to apply whatev...

Here it is. I was guilty of making assumptions about how to deal with crosswind take-offs, Joe Greblo set me straight. As usual. Here is my mail to him and his reply: On Feb 27, 2006, at 10:51 PM, Jesse Benson wrote: Hi Again: A Garlock question re: yawing vs. letting the nose rotate into the wind: ...

Garlock 02.26
Greblo led a gaggle of us to Garlock early Sunday. Myself, Lynden, Don, Chris, Eric and Kris Greblo. Beautiful desert scenery on the way: trucks with dirt-bikes, cozy little meth- labs settled amonst the rocks, and a strange 6-wheeled vehicle driven by black-masked militants: Minutemen perhaps? Afte...

Personal Best - Sinking Out
Today I reached new levels of descent. Everywhere I looked, there was sink, even the kitchen kind! Forget the other guys, I was the Plunge Master! The vario was wailing so much, I was convinced it had fallen right off the base tube, but no, that was me! Unbelievable! How lucky can one guy get? In fa...

I loved reading that story. Very well written. Much better than most of those dry, heavy-on-the-stats comp blogs. He communicated the same sense of astonishment and adventure I feel when flying, but on a much bigger scale of course. I like especially the part where he lands near a Denny's. He enters...

This is the second mid-air in a little more than one month. This is the situation that causes the most anxiety for me, as it is SO dependent on everyone else being predictable and dependable in their behavior. Maybe this is a good time, what with the crowded flying season around the corner, to run t...
