Thanks for the story, interesting reading, but I don't agree with conclusions. You can't walk all LZs or know where they are in advance and its quite normal situation that you flying and landing along, just by yourself. So, right conclusions is learn how recognize good LZ from bad LZ. Its understand...

Hi Tavis,
Kagel is a fun place to fly. Make sure to launch early, nornally by 12-12:30 because its get windy later on the most of days. Also be aware that wind pick up around 3 pm much more then on Marshall. I usually go XC if weather permite or land by 2 or 3 pm.

Owens valley trip, 10/08/2011

Forecast was iffy with light N wind Saturday and SE Sunday and 10K cloud base. It did not stop 5 pilots and 1 driver to go for it. We leaved Kagel LZ about 7:00 am and arrived to Paiute launch at 2 pm. Vista was beautiful with snow from recent storm covered the peaks: http://extreme-nn.fatal.ru/news...

Hi Jim,
Thanks for sharing your flights, very impressive. Joe also mention that few pilots use this route in the past. My main concern is hike out time if I land out there, but I may try it eventually. Do you fly PG nowadays?

Thanks,
Alex

Kagel 2 Glendora 9/6/2011

Good weather today, base around 7K, light SE shifting to SW, even some nice looking clouds was forming over back country. I launched at 1:22pm, which was at least one hour late, but still made it to Glendora, 32 miles out: http://www.paraglidingforum.com/leonardo/flight/502847 Jonathan made great ou...

Its great event to put some HG flights for PGs or non flying friends. I did 3 flights in 2009 and 3 in 2010. :D Hope to attend this year too.

You need SE wind for Laguna and W for Horse Canyon.
Its only 8.5K for Pine Saturday (too low).

Marc,
You're right. Its stressful before start when you have to stay in gaggle (100+ pilots) for 20-30 minutes, so you can take a good start. Then everybody get spread on course and help you identify and core thermals (unless you fly super slow and find yourself alone).

how long you had to wait on launch
Typically 10-15 minutes if you ready in time.
I didn't see any hang gliders
There was many of them. But they launched later when we went on course and clear skies for them. I think there is a photo of Valle de Bravo from HG in current USHPA mag.
