OK, yes I was being overly dramatic to rattle the cage and see what the responses would be. The 10 or so random pilots I spoke with about this pretty much felt the way I do, that we need to nip this in the butt now. I have nothing against homeless people. They have my empathy and I occasionally buy ...

This weekend is designed to be an event where friends, family and neighbors are encouraged to attend. While I totally agree that theft and squatters are unacceptable, I caution all of us to not jump to conclusions about individuals. My suggestion is to take is case-by-case. If any individual displa...

website member photos

Since my intimate encounter with Kagel I noticed that my bio and photo on the member site has been removed. Ya'll probably thought I wasn't coming back.

SHGA Homeless Hangout

I have noticed homeless people hanging out here on the weekends. I have asked many club members about this and all I spoke with agree that this has to be stopped. Club members encouraging them by giving them money etc. needs to be stopped. Now we have stuff missing, that needs to be stopped. I WILL ...

I guess I took it for granted that all members have radio licenses, I should not assume. Being from Europe I kind of compare it to learning the native language of the country you are moving to goes without question, but your concerns make more sense now. I don't know how many pilots in the club have...

Amateur radio is a controlled substance. That's why it's LICENSED. To imply otherwise is just ignores basic fact. As a club we need to ensure that we behave in a manner that reflects some level of integrity. Starting a conversation that basically says that unlicensed use is OK because it serves the...

The only problem is availability to and use of the radio by unlicensed users. There is no way to ensure that the use is licensed if the radio in unmonitored. Some may think that's not a big deal, but "Uncle Sugar" (FCC) thinks so. Mike Could you provide the source of this info please. I l...

Just sent an email to McKenzie about this and had an idea. Have a radio with external speaker mounted in a box similar to phone (I may be able to get one of these). This box will have a combo lock on it in case you have to respond when there is no one in the "beer garden" where the other r...

How about a sign stating applicable FCC rules and in big letters something about authorized personnel only, that way any rogue communicator's action cannot be blamed on the club. This is obviously not foolproof but we need to accept that.

Crestline has a built-in 2-meter radio in their gazebo at Andy Jackson Airpark, with a speaker. In an emergency anyone is permitted to use 2-meter radio with or without a license. Cell phones are often useless up on Kagel. If there is a an emergency that requires medivac or search and rescue this i...
