SHGA asked to participate in mock hang glider rescue
Past discussions with L.A. Fire Dept Chief Ward have resulted in their invitation to participate in a training exercise using 2 or 3 hang gliders and hang glider pilots as rescue victims. This will be a great opportunity for our club to receive great recognition for our contributions to the communit...

Back from Valley Of The Brave
Thanks Windsports, for sending me and Kris on this week-long flying vacation to Mexico. Rudy Gotes of Vuelo Libre Mexico, pulls out all the stops by providing 1st class everything; gliders, accommodations, transport and instruction. We didn't even have to set up or break down our own gliders. Every ...

Today we received the shocking news that Greg DeWolf passed away while sitting at his computer, overlooking his garden. We're told that the coroner reported that Greg suffered from an embolism and died peacefully. Right now we're all very sad. We will be learning more soon. Many close to Greg have s...

Blowin' In The Wind
It was quite a few weeks this accident happened;and likely old news. Short version: I blew over on launch while hooked in. Long version: I wanted to feel wind on my face and bugs in my teeth before i left for a non flying vacation. I was tired but took the opportunity to squeeze in a hot mid day lau...

Big Challenges facing our club
A new developer has surfaced with plans to build houses exactly on our launch site and all the way down the main ridge, volcano, bench, and foothills. If allowed to do so, this would end flying at Kagel. Look for details soon from your board. In the meantime, it's election time for the city councilp...

Just to clarify Bob's post above..... Everyone pilot flying Dockweiler Beach will be required to be a member of the USHPA. Most pilots will already be members, however some may not so we're prepared to provide temporary 30 day USHPA memberships for those vintage pilots that may have let their member...

My thoughts.. I've witnessed a pilot hoist the glider upwards just prior to launch and, while convinced he was hooked in, he wasn't. Hoisting the glider upwards without a visual inspection can fail and has. There is no fool proof way to prevent hook in failure, but I believe the following... Pilots ...

Remembering Orian
The turnout for Orian was tremendous and the love and appreciation shown by all his friends was, I believe, a great comfort to his mom and sister and all who were close to him. Thanks to Cathy, Kat and Nancy for a fantastic job of making this so successful and rewarding and Jim and Richard for joini...

His Sister, Summer Bushnell has asked that friends not yet contact Orian's mother, but may call Summer if they wish. Email Joe at Windsports for her phone number i...

I watched another pilot launch unhooked using your (Jonathan's) technique. As many agree, all systems can fail when you fail to use them. I believe the absolute largest cause of failures to hook in can be attributed to the pilot's belief that it won't happen to him because he has a good system. Greg...

You wouldn't know it but I may have your white full helmet
Someone accidentally picked up my new Charlie Insider Helmet from the lz couple weeks ago and left me theirs by mistake. You'll know the difference only when you look at it as they are both relatively the same small size. Yours had a glue-on GoPro camera mount on the top front, and mine doesn't. If ...
