Very good day Tuesday (tomorrow)

Looks like a very good chance for a 7500 ft. Day tomorrow. If you don’t have to work consider flying Kagel.
Watch out for the traffic in Victor Airway 459. Best to stay below 6000 in this area.

Re: Fly Valle De Bravo March 1st through 8th 2020

This is one of the best flying vacations on the planet, if you like great thermal soaring every day, with climbs to over 10,000 ft., large landing areas, xc flights and training and almost everything done for you. Rudy Gotes runs a first-class operation and if you're a 30 or 40 hr pilot wishing to a...

Kevin in Hospital

Kevin Kader is at Holy Cross Hospital at 15031 Rinaldi St., Mission Hills, after an unsuccessful launch at Kagel on Monday. He is in good spirits and expected to fully recover but his stay may be a couple of weeks. His injuries include a couple of broken bones in his neck, some broken ribs, a broken...

Re: Katherine Yardley - Sad News

Saturday was a great event I think, for everyone who attended. I thought I'd post a nostalgic photo shgafloat1.jpg of Katherine leading the SHGA's float entry in the Sylmar Parade (early 1980s) Katherine is on the left in the foreground. The float is Rome Dodson's pickup truck with a western town mu...

Re: Katherine Yardley

For all of us in the SHGA, there can be no greater friend and no more important contributor than Katherine. Katherine was an important player in every significant club milestone, as a founding member and past president of the SHGA, women’s world record cross country distance holder, longtime hang gl...

New Wild Things insulated flight suit from Kris Greblo

I'm posting this for Kris. It is a warm and expensive, one-piece, thinsulate, flight suit that's perfect for winter flying. It's very well made and cost over $300.00 new. Never worn and sized for someone about 6' and 200 lbs; 36" shoulder to crotch. Make Kris an offer if you like it.

Emergency LZ now cleared

Somehow the emergency lz (near the base of the Pacoima Dam) has been graded and is now much safer to land on if needed. Imagine that!
The road to launch has been graded as well.

Another Reason to not look down while getting into your harness after launching.

Re: Big Sur Neighbors seeking assistance

Funding for the Big Sur Road Restoration Project has ground to a halt, just a couple thousand dollars short of the goal. If you've ever flow Big Sur or wish to, and you haven't made a small donation already, I hope that you will. I'm hoping we'll meet the goal and celebrate with a fly in up there th...

Valle

I’ve got to thank Josh and Andy over at windsports for sending me down to run another flying trip to Valle de bravo. We were a fun group of 8, flying every day and getting as high as 13000 ft. Where else in the world can you soar everyday in the winter and spring. Getting pampered with your own set ...

Re: Land Next to LZ is For Sale

Only the past political climate and nothing else, prevented 2 previous attempts to build more than a dozen homes there. I view this as one of the more serious threats to our flying future. The other two serious threats we should be concerned about are the sale and development of our launch site and ...

Big Sur Neighbors seeking assistance

Many of you know that Windsports Soaring Center has been running annual flying trips to Big Sur (Plaskett Creek) since 1974 with each trip averaging about 50 pilots. These trips have been among our most cherished, due to the unique beauty and serenity of the Big Sur coastline and the superb memories...

Another Beautiful Sculpture

In case you've been wondering where the fantastic rotating brass sculpture in the club's native garden came from, here's the scoop. It came from Sergey Pavlov, our Russian pilot, artist, and past Moscow Circus performer. I first hired Sergey to help improve the airpark property with a few of his art...
