Re: Big Sur Trip Details

I am going up Thursday after work - about 5:30pm from Glendale. I'm driving to Cambria, staying 1 night in a hotel there, then heading to the campground early on Friday morning. I have 1 spot left in my Tahoe - possibly 2. The hotel room will be about $33 including tax for that night, but that inclu...

more Big Sur

I left the LZ about 45 minutes ahead of everyone else with my girlfriend. I was surprised to hear that no campsites were reserved. I checked the Plaskett Creek web site a couple weeks ago and noticed that every site was reserved and just assumed that some of those reservations were for our group. On...

regrade the wash

Why can't we make some minor modifications to the wash with the small cat/loader we used to link the wash with the grass area? If we could move some of the sand to the rocky areas, we could make the wash much safer.

I printed and will mail my letter today. The letters need to arrive before September 15th. I recommend any pilot who ever flies Crestline/Marshall take the 2 minutes to print this letter and send it in. I'm sure the CSS pilots will help us if we need them for the gazebo project. Who is will to help ...

Useful report. Full-face helmet? Would/did type of helmet matter? I was wearing a full face Shoei motorcycle helmet. I like to think of it as "the scoop". It was well optimized for scooping up all that sand and dirt onto my face. I'm not sure if the type of helmet was helpful or not. Ther...

6/28/08 crash in Sylmar wash

Had a very abrupt crash landing in the wash today. Broke 2 down tubes and bent 1 undersurface batton. Ended up with minor scrapes on one side of my face, one small cut, and some scrapes on the back of my hand. The cause? Basically I just wasn't paying enough attention to my angle to the numbers. The...

words from a United pilot

I asked a United pilot about this incident and she replied: "I read the discussion and I'm glad that I wasn't one of those guys looking at that 737. I very rarely fly into BUR. I can't even remember the last time that I flew into there. I don't think that I have ever landed south since I have w...

That was most likely my fault on Sunday. That was the first time I have done the unlock/lock routine. I didn't scramble the numbers before pushing the lock in. I now realize the error of my ways and will not repeat it. Sorry!

Launch windsock

Now that we have a locked gate, is there any talk of reinstalling a real windsock at launch?

Yosemite flying July 6-8th

Is anyone interested in flying Yosemite on the weekend of July 6-8th? I'm going to be headed up there with a non-flying group of friends (i.e. drivers) for the weekend. I would love to fly with some others if anyone is interested. Right now they don't have a site monitor that weekend, but if more pe...

My vote is for option C. I think it will be better over the long term. It's a nice place for the neighbors and other interested folks to come watch our landings.

Greblo and I drove around to the LZ's yesterday. The schools and parks don't look that good to Greblo. We did find 2 debris/flood basin areas at the base of Lukens that would be reasonable bailout LZ's. We also walked the Big T LZ. Greblo believes this would be a hang 3 or hang 2 with signoff LZ (li...

Yesterday I went out and surveyey 8 of the 10 sites I had found on Google Earth. It got dark and I got hungry before I had a chance at the last 2, of which I think I might be a really good one. Of the 8, there is 1 really nice LZ (Clark Magnet High School), 1 good LZ (Two Strike Park Baseball Field)...
