Flights

Can we post our flight results here? It'd be nice to see what others are submitting. Kind of like seeing how you're doing relative to the pack, despite flying on separate days. Also, can we have the scoring methods posted here, so we can plan our strategies ahead of time? A few people have told me t...

Interest level?

Hey Sylmar pilots, Crestline already has their fly-in happening on the 8th. What interest do we have within the club to do a interclub competition with them? (Post a response here) We could do a follow-up event on July 15th at Kagel. What do you think the format should be -- just best Kagel pilot co...

Food Sign-Up list in the LZ Gazebo...

There's a sign-up sheet in the LZ (Nailed on a post on the Gazebo), to list what you're planning to bring. That'll help the selection. The club will be providing grillables and paper stuff (and then we put out a donation jar to offset). That works out to be a lot easier (and less hygenically risky)....

9 Weeks of Summer Kagel Comp Series

Don Banos has put up real cash money for prizes. The scoring algorithm is a complex attempt to level the competition among glider types and pilot experience levels. I bet it will need tweaking over the series. Series will run for 3 three-week periods, starting July 5th, with pilots submitting their ...

Fathers Day Flying & BBQ

Details are coming together. General concept is events for families in the Flight Park, and a Pot-luck BBQ (club will buy grillables and put out a donation jar, and have the plates, etc, rest will be brought potluck). This was a Joseph Vandertol inspiration. One or two more volunteers are needed for...

Class racing works in sailboats...

I think it sounds great. Eric and I are itching, since we were up in such great conditions for the Sping Air, but the event was cancelled. Maybe 3 classes: single-surface, sport, and topless. We need some folks to figure out the specifics. Chip says there's an intermountain event in NCal, that's a w...

5030 is great but..

I've heard it's great to have the streetmapping functionality of a land-based GPS unit, for flying XC and trying to get someone you know to pick you up. Did you hear the story of the second guy on the legendary Sylmar to Palm Springs convergence day: the one who didn't get that far and spent the nig...

Sylmar Baseball League Opening day baseball drop: March 4th

SHGA is going to liven up the opening day of our neighbor's little league season by flying down and dropping the opening day game ball from a hang glider! The kids go wild over this. We need club members to pull this off. George Stebbins has volunteered to do the flying. We need 4-5 more club volunt...
