It looks like they expanded the TFR to include the LZ.

Re: More discussion would be nice

Sunday had a great looking forecast with light winds. It blew in pretty strong in the early afternoon, but then backed way off with most people launching in nil wind. I got a good climb with JD over launch and headed East. I hooked up with Chippy over Lukens and we climbed out to 10,500 ft. Chippy h...

Kendall's Call

Just for anyone who's not stuck at work, I'm going to go out on a limb and say it's not blowing down today (Friday 3/8/19). It might be kind of West, but not down.

A bubble level won't tell you which way is up when it's in an airplane or a glider. For that you need a gyro or an IMU (inertial measurement unit).

I wonder if anyone feels like making a track log animation. I'd like to see how Andy and Jim and Bruce did it.

High Day in July

Really high days in July are pretty rare at Kagel. I can think of two. The second one was Friday 7/6/18. The heat (and presumably employment) kept everyone away and there were only three flights. I had looked at the forecast and decided to extend my vacation by one day. I had just returned from the ...

That was me. The XC Skies forecast (or my interpretation of it) said it could be a 7,000-ft day, but the haze made me very skeptical. Despite the haze, I got to 8k at Lukens and couldn’t let that go to waste. I got to 7,800 again at Harvard. That, and another climb over the powerlines, got me across...

I just had a good visit with Ron at his home. It blew me away when he greeted me at the door and said my name. We had a long conversation, mostly about all of his hang gliding friends. He already knew about OP. He still gets confused at times, but he remembers a lot. I told him that I flew yesterday...

It’s been mentioned that my hook-in verification technique is to establish a line that cannot be crossed without checking everything. It’s also been mentioned that it’s doing repeated checks on launch. Actually, it’s both of those things, plus hooking in at the setup location. The idea is ma...

I like the running on flat ground idea. For that, I think I want to replace my carbon base tube with something more expendable (and maybe with wheels).

Blown Launch at Kagel

My name is Greg and I’m a launch blower. That’s twice now. The first time was 25 years ago on the training hill. The second time was Saturday at Kagel. I attempted to launch from the paraglider launch in moderately gusty afternoon conditions. I waited a while until the wind was straight in and a...
