Weather Clinic Set for Saturday April 7th

Come one come all to the weather clinic event of the year. Yes that's right Joe Szalia, aka Hungary Joe will be putting all those questions to rest on how to figure out whether you should stay home and do some knitting or come out and fly. David Cutter says this about Hungary Joe, "Without a do...

Next Steps

After having read all of the discussion about the Gazebo, I have come to this conclusion: 1. The gazebo is not about to fall down, nevertheless I believe it should be replaced. 2. We should not put a temporary structure between the 2 storage sheds. Our efforts should be concentrated on the gazebo. 3...

Policy and reality sometimes don't match

5 bucks doesn't keep anyone away. Neither does not even collecting that. I don't know how many visiting pilots we have but I wouldn't say it is a bunch. So, despite encouraging visits we have none. I would hope that if we amend this policy that well, it would actually work. We would actually get inc...

Multi-Site and Communicating with the Club

©hris posted a detailed plan for multi-club flying rights, which I responded to. The link is here: http://www.shga.com/forum/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=509 Trying to keep things organized. Perhaps a question more appropriate for the presidency subject is how to communicate with the membership. I have s...

Multi-Site

I think this has merit. Perhaps we should float it to measure interest at the club and then interest at the other sites. Bottom line is that the primary site should not loose any revenue and the associated sites should gain some revenue. The plan has some administration overhead. To keep this low an...

Thanks to Chris and Doug for throwing their hat in

©hris wrote: Maybe you guys should have a Dungeon's and Dragon's match to find the new president. Looks like ©hris meant this comment all in fun, but it is not easy doing this stuff. Comparing this process to basically a joke is likely to be anything but funny to everyone who has participated. So...

Bumpy Days and Marketing

Chip, now remember it's the USHPA. On another subject - marketing. For it to be successful you need a plan. If you don't have a plan then cheap, easy and a very low downside is best. Windsports has their training hill at Dockweiler beach. On any given weekend a ton of people rollerskate, bike ...

Increasing membership by partnering with Crestline

Chip wrote: Now here's an idea with merit. But free? How about optionally raising the dues (slightly) and give a portion to CSS and Visa - Versa (members could choose to join both clubs at a discounted rate). Increased revenue and more members. I believe Crestline has many more paraglider pilots th...

Took the hint

Since many people don't know who I am, I figured this picture which shows my face is better than one in full hang glider regalia.

Thanks Christian for all you help.

If anyone thinks that me thanking Christian is an example of shameless pandering for a vote... your wrong!

I don't have a plan

Well I actually do. From what I know the SHGA is a non-profit corporation. It has a balance sheet, income and cash flow statements. I am sure that there are on-going issues and plans in various stages of execution. First step is to figure out where we are before we go changing things that can affect...

SHGA Presidency

After reading the plea for candidates for president on the SHGA website I decided that perhaps I should do my bit for the club and volunteer for the spot since no one else was. Turns out someone else had the same idea and now I am campaigning for president. Who would have thought. My name is Joseph ...

Many Thanks to Everyone!

I wanted to say a quick thank you for all the work put in on Saturday. Working with such a large group, I think we had over 40 people made the task much easier. I also got a small taste of the energy put into these type of things working with Larry Chamblee. We all owe everyone on the board for the ...

Time for H2s and H3s to step up

Lisa, Larry, George and Ken: Do you guys agree that this issue is big enough to invest some time into it? First steps would be to objectively assess the situation to see how serious it is and then base the next steps on that outcome. I am willing to take the lead and move this forward if you guys ag...

Welcome aboard glad you're here

I have been flying at Kagel for a little over a year. It is a great sport and I can't really picture my life without flying in it. My advise to you is to pay attention to Joe Greblo and the other instructors. Everyone pays a bunch of attention to thermalling but landing is probably the most importan...

Protecting what we have

I agree that we should try and expand launch sites around the area, but I am particularly concerned with the ravine that threatens Kagel launch. As fixing the erosion is an unknown it is harder to get moving on it. But it seems that effort should first be put into protecting what we have gained, i.e...

Happy Birthday to Irwin!

I flew yesterday July 25th and happened to find out that it was Irwin's birthday. He is 60 years old :o ! So, I hope that everyone will take some time to wish him well. Without Irwin we wouldn't be able to get up the mountain. So, Happy Birthday Irwin. Many thanks. I will leave it to the rest of you...
