I apologize for the turmoil
Thank you very much for the post Glide Junkie. It is good to see someone new participating. The ideas and suggestions are great. Whatever comes out of this we all should just be thankful that there are good people on the board and that we have a board at all. Not sure if I would be one of the "...

Thanks George for the reply
I agree with your post George, it is important to have balance.
Most importantly now is to broaden participation. The SHGS needs volunteers to work on the board. If there are things that are preventing that, post them here.

Is it a time for change on the board?
The purpose of this post is to hopefully encourage discussion as the time for board nominations approaches. The people on the board do a lot of hard work that most members are not willing to do. Many of the efforts of these people go unsung. Among other things, year in and year out, Dan Barley compe...

Typo in my resignation post
Ken Andrews and the board have convinced me that a rather serious typo exists in some of my posts. After serious thought I realized that members may somehow get the idea that I have resigned as President of the SHGA. To clear the air I am now the current President of the SHGA at least until the end ...

Very, very sad news - a great loss to all
I flew with Jeff many times. Jeff was a kind and caring man. He always was considerate and had kind words. He was not a push over and stood his ground for things he believed in. He was like bedrock, silent and strong. People like Jeff provide a foundation for clubs like the SHGA. They do a lot of he...

My resignation as President of the SHGA
The reason for my resignation is that I believe I cannot be an effective president as the board is currently composed. I am sure you are all aware of my efforts to move forward with the CUP and the gazebo from the forum posts. I am sure you are aware that at the August board meeting an expeditor, Ro...

Use of a CUP Expeditor
At Thursday night’s board meeting Robert Fedor an expeditor who has been recommended by Nick Krall of the neighborhood council presented to the board. These are the general outcomes of that meeting. There is agreement that the scope and complexity of submitting a CUP application is beyond availabl...

Board Meeting Thursday, CUP on the Agenda
If you have the time, or if you don't make the time. I think it is important for the board to hear how the membership feels about the CUP application process. This Thursday at 7:00 pm Windsports house, be there or be square.

Thanks for the helpful responses
John Wickham is involved and has been speaking with Joe Greblo and others. There is a committee of which I am part so there is ownership. The problem in my opinion is that we have not made and do not appear to be on the path to make significant progress in a timely manner. However, my unhappiness wi...

Where the money would go
George and Don, this money would go to a consultant that "expedites" applications. The guy knows people in the government and is experienced in the application process. The first thing I would like him to do is investigate completely whether our requirement to get a CUP is actually real. T...

Your right about the money
I don't want to write a blank check and that said 1 grand won't cover the cost of a consultant. However, it puts some money behind going forward and quantifies part of the cost that must be paid either in sweat or hard cash. The board donates hours and hours of time and there is simply not enough of...

CUP - 1 Year After the Fact
It is approaching 1 year since I stood before you and said that the club needed to get a CUP. In that time we have talked, gathered information, looked at our past CUP application, spoken with the councilman and his office staff member Dan Rosales. We have gone down to the planning office, we have a...

Sorry but you cannot have access to the gate
The forest service has closed this road and access is by permit only. The SHGA negotiated a permit with the Forest Service and we are under very strict guidelines on road use. Our club does not wish to risk losing our permit and therefore the only way to go up would with one of our pilot groups on t...

Does anyone know what caused the accident
From what I read he was flying at Palos Verdes which is a coastal site. Does anyone know if there was something about the conditions that day or specific decisions in flight that contributed to the accident?

Jim Thompson and the Gazebo Action Committe will modify the Gazebo plans to include comments from the membership. A document ...

Great Job for everyone who turned up for the L/Z clean-up
Thanks to everyone who worked very hard yesterday clearing the dead oleanders, mowing the l/z lawn, weed wacking the L/Z border and clearing plants from the H-2 landing area in the wash. To mention a few, Richard Shaw ripped out oleander stumps with this truck, Eric Brown cleared the h-2 area, Darre...

LZ and launch work party April 14th
In preparation for the new flying year some work needs to get done in the LZ and at launch. So that you all have the opportunity to have some fun and forget about taxes, a work party to clean up the border and improve the look and condition of the L/Z is scheduled for Saturday April 14th. Hungary Jo...
