Dockweiler Beach Closing

Friends of Windsports and Dockweiler Hang Gliding, I'm afraid I have bad news. My insurance company has declined to renew Windsports insurance policy for the coming year due to a high insurance claims rate in industry during the past year. After 2 weeks of researching, my broker is not optimistic th...

Awesome Video w/ Wolfi's Elsinore event

Don't miss any part of this video. It's the best I've seen and includes Wolfi's recent upside down event at Elsinore. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pHwV51nxhqE https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pHwV51nxhqE

Newly Created West Launch

Some recent changes we've arranged with L.A. County Fire Dept. include brush removal below our normal launch ramp and now a new southwest to west facing launch area on the west side of the "donut" or Helipad. Our club rules require a H4 for all launch sites other than the original Kagel ra...

That's an interesting observation. I carry Maillon Rapide s/s links for those pilots that desire them. I order them from Betty so I'm certain that she endorses their use. Ever since the hang gliding industry changed from aluminum to steel carabiners in the 70's, I've pretty much stopped worrying abo...

I always found it odd that I could not find information on "the useful life of a steel carabiner". I've noticed some pilots flying with Stubai Super 5000 carabiners that are over 20 years old. While it's true that this particular carabiner is not a cheap carabiner (around $40.), has a part...

I'd recommend every pilot check their carabiner, regardless of which harness you have. If it's an Austrialpin brand carabiner, then don't fly with it until you confirm with me that it has not been recalled by the manufacturer.

Carabiner Recall on Moyes and Woody Valley Harnesses

I recently sent out notices to local Woody Valley harness owners regarding a recall notice on defective carabiners. It turns out that Moyes also uses these carabiners on their harnesses. ANYONE WITH A MOYES OR WOODY VALLEY HARNESS, and anyone with an AUSTRALPIN carabiner must check their carabiner a...

Bad Flying and some good luck at Kagel

I have a video I'm trying to post of me and Corey striking wings in front of the ridge at Kagel on Wednesday. I'd like to post it here in case it could be helpful. Stop in and lend a hand if it's convenient. The mid air occurred while we were both flying straight for a considerable time. We both fle...

Camera wanted

We had 2 cameras stolen and because we still have all the accessories, we're trying to replace one of them. If anyone has an old Canon Powershot Digital Elph SD1000 or SD1100 that's gathering dust, we'd like to buy it from you.

He does look pretty sinister.
He doesn't seem to prey on single surface gliders so I usually feel safe when he's around.

We had several trucks of pilots show up to vote, including a group of students headed out to the desert to fly. Richard Shaw drove a long distance just to vote in this election, as did J.Devorak, Ken Andrews, Frederick Wagner, Lynn, Cyndia, and others I've lost track of. Thank you to all who sacrifi...
