Re: Yosemite

River is low but floatable. No more boat rentals after Thursday though. Get a cheap one at Walmart or Big 5.

Re: Yosemite

Nevermind. It is the Mt. Raymond Rd. The snow area shows up on the maps.

Mike, I will try to get spots for you and Arthur for Thursday night, if I can.

Re: Yosemite

There is a "snow play area" just outside the park off of 41. It is basically a large parking lot hidden in the trees. It is in the national forest, not the park, and I've never been rousted there. The Bridalveil Camp Host says that it is acceptable (for now) to stay there. Please, no fire...

Marshall, I can take your Falcon. I expect to be at Sylmar on Saturday if you want to give it to me then.

Re: Yosemite

I am planning to drive up Tuesday evening of that week, stay just outside the park, and get in early the next morning to get a spot on Wednesday. The last two years it's been tough getting campsites there and I resolved to make a little vacation out of it and go up earlier mid week to stake my claim...

Emergency Procedures

The recent helicopter rescue of a PG pilot from Kagel after a blown launch went fairly well, but it also exposed some weaknesses in our procedures. Rob took the lead in remedying this and produced a set of suggested procedures in the case of an injury emergency at our site. These suggested procedure...

Re: Yosemite

Got a notice yesterday from Yosemite saying the campground will open on July 15, but without water. No word on when water will be restored to that campground. I hope it is by August.

Re: Hurricane on the Fourth of July

Well, we hit a winner for weather at Hurricane this time. Temps were warm of course, but surprisingly nice, and we had good flying every day. Long flights were possible if you were both a little lucky and willing to go. On the fourth we were getting over 12k at times and I was over 14 once. Flew to ...

Re: Andy Jackson Memorial Fly-in

Thought I might mention that I got a campsite up at Dogwood above the Rim of the World high school for that Saturday night after the fly-in. Plenty of room for a tent at my site in case anyone else is interested in making it a weekend up there.

Re: Yosemite

And today it went back to a -maybe- at Bridalveil. They rescinded the earlier opening statement. Probably might be a better word. We apologize, but due to a technical issue, we will not be able to release Bridalveil Creek Group and Horse sites tomorrow, June 27. We will send another email when they ...

Ken in Greenland

I coaxed Ken to send something to post on the forum (for the Facebook resistance.) If you don't know, he was posted to a research project at 10000 ft. on the Greenland ice sheet for a month or two this summer. He has been unable to log in so he sent me a few pictures: https://photos.app.goo.gl/JibRi...

Re: Yosemite

If anyone needs a glider ride there, I have plenty of room for it. Also if you want to spend a little more time up there and hike around, etc. and can come up earlier, I'll have room for a body or two as well.

Re: Yosemite

As the weekend of 7/20 works well for me I’ll be watching the camping issue closely as I can’t go on those August dates. It looks to me that Bridalveil won't be open until Aug. 1, if then, so I think I need to shoot for August unless things change. Greg, are you suggesting Aug 17-18 then bleeding i...

Re: Yosemite

I'm cool with August. Spaces out all the little adventures to other places. Like Hurricane for the 4th of July! Any takers? Yeah, I was just reopening this to say the same thing. Was checking out houses to rent there this morning and we can do it again. I (and I think "we") would be in. A...
