There, that settles it. I'm putting in a call to the mayor's office asking for the city to bring us all the used mattresses that the city collects and disposes of. We'll pile them up in the l/z for Don.

Fire breaks out again

Got to work this morning and saw the wood chips below Santiago Estates on fire and wouldn't you know it, Santa Ana winds. Called 911 and drove over there with a shovel and started on the open flames. Fire trucks arrived around 10 minutes later and made fairly quick work of things. This is an area wh...

I love the enthusiam you guys have on this. I'm still not the biggest fan of painting dirt or sand or grass as it looks like crap after a few weeks, and the wash has motorcycles and horses passing through. I'm still hopeful that one of us will discover some semi permanent way to create the white str...

Glen; Your contributions are very helpful. When it comes to creature comforts and aesthetics, I think the club members should and will make their desires known to the board. Given enough interest, I'm confident the board will be responsive. When it comes to the safety issues, I'm extremely vocal. As...

Glen; As much as it would make for wonderful straight in approaches, the 200 ft. line has never been negotiable for reasons presented in the previous post. Hence the dog leg on final. Since pilots continue to crash near the homes with our current rules, it makes little sense to make the buffer zone ...

We are expected to remain 200 ft. from the fence line. The powerlines run parallel to the fence and just above it about 50 ft. Our streamer is located about 175-180 ft. from the fence line and this is what we have always considered as 200 ft. (even though it's a tad short). Our commitment to stay ou...

Glen; The idea looks good. The hang 4 runway can't be the way we'd all like, and as shown, because it violates the club's 200 ft. rule. It will require a small dogleg, or another approach that better protects the club's interests is to promote the single long runway, with the dogleg runway for simul...

Better than a scaled diagram is to copy a photo from Google Maps, Google Earth, or Zillow. You can scale them to any size and rotate them to fit the page.

Glen; White lines would be fine, but they are only temporary and begin to look pretty shabby when they wear and become segmented. A white chalk centerline wouldn't be too hard to keep replacing and both helps with approaches, and makes it look a little more like a flight park. As for borders for the...

When you get a chance check out the following.....new, longer and wider Hang 2/3 runway, much longer and safer Hang 4 overshoot area, new driveway gate, fence repair at the end of Gridley, refurbished ...

I forgot to thank my wife Kris, Larry Chamblee, Kathryn Yardley, and Ken Andrews for dropping everything, manning the phones, and putting out the "call to arms" when I began to get overwhelmed by the wood chip fire. It's good to know people that you can rely on. Finally, I'm organizing a w...

I've received a lot of phone calls and emails thanking me for "saving our l/z". Let me set the record straight! I, didn't save the l/z. The l/z was never in much danger because there isn't much to burn except an old gazebo (which many would like to see burn down), a couple old wood picnic ...

We're all going to see Nizer

So far we've got a group of 12 going to see Mark Nizer perform his comedy act at the Scherr Theatre in Thousand Oaks on Friday, October 17th at 7 pm. We'd like to invite as many hang glider pilots as possible to attend. Ticket prices are $24. each and are available in advance at the box office or fr...

LSK I apologize for the rude response you've received, but knowing the amount of funding the Forest Service has requested in their effort to repair the off road damage up there, I don't expect there's much you can do to convince them to let motorcycles and OHV in through the gate (short of buying yo...

Great photo. I'll give a couple of hints. One guys nickname was Bent Brake. Another lived in a glass house in La Crescenta and weilded a cache of ungodly weapons that would make Hannibal Lecter cringe. Many can still be found in the club's storage locker, complete with notches ground into the handle...
