Hello fellow pilots,
I'm ending the year at my school at Nickerson Gardens Housing Projects, in Watts (read:no money) by doing a NASA Science Unit on Aeronautics. We're going to do experiments and investigations using windsocks, delta wing gliders, airplanes and so forth--IF i can somehow put together the necessary supplies. I need:
Balloons,
Straws,
Fishing Line,
Compass (simple toy one will do),
Kite String
50 Size 12 Styrofoam Meat Trays
Sandpaper to smooth the edges on the aforementioned trays
Dowels from which to hang windsocks, about 25
50 toothpicks strong enough to perforate the styrofoam
If you can help with any of these supplies, please post! Or, if you can donate money toward them, you might help a future pilot or rocket scientist get started. (I have 5 students who want to be mathematicians / scientists, and they are Gifted. Who knows?)
I can supply receipts and thank-you notes on school letterhead (for tax purposes) to anyone who can help.
Thank you sincerely, on behalf of my students,
JC

Janyce,
I know it's late in the game, so maybe this can be for later down the road, have you contacted the Traveling Space Museum?
http://www.travelingspacemuseum.org/
It's a non-profit organization that brings Space Day to your school - including a flight simulator and a space toilet! My 99s women pilot group and I have volunteered at many space days for the TSM.
You should check it out.
