YouTube has glider goodness

Post by DigitalBishop »

I found a lot of good clips of glider goodness on YouTube. Even a few of people learning. However I was kind of shocked to see that not everyone is as safety oriented as Windsports and the SHGA. For example this guy took his daughter along to teach her hang gliding. I don't know where this was but I was surprised to see that no hang check was done after she was hooked in. It kind of irked me. We need future pilots (like me and others) taught good safety habits.

Other gems I found was this one of a pilot scratching to the tune of Flight of the Bumble Bee. Sped up and a bit funny. I thought the paraglider was going to try and chase him around. Nah.

Others can be found if you use the usual suspects of keywords (hang gliding and hanggliding)

A good central source of HG videos is http://ozreport.com/videos.php

In the "Short videos" category are good examples of technique. See "Flying Low Right at the Beach" for remarkable demo of 90-degree crosswind landing.

The "more videos" list contains many of the best full length videos around. Hold cursor over the green URL for description.

Here is the best video I know of our own Dockweiler Beach, shot by Jr Gillard of Tennessee. He does a great job soaring the dune.

Jr. Gillard's video should be used for training. I learned quite a bit just by watching it.

Thanks Christian.

Hmmmmmmmmm....................
I wonder how long ago that video was taken. The building that's just up the beach toward Marina Del Rey isn't there and the 'plant' across the street is there either.

Yea, it's a pretty good video. However, I've seen Paul's ridge soaring that he does there some of the time and it's much more spectacular!!!

Go Paul!!!!!

Here is a flying video from my recent trip to Yosemite a couple weeks ago:

Beware, it's almost 200 MB.
