Our dear friend and long time Sylmar pilot, Rome Dodson, succumbed to his illness last night.

I am sure others herein will express my sentiments as right now I am at a loss for words. All I can do is to emphasize what has already been said...we have lost one of our very best. Rome, you will be sorely missed.

At the risk of sounding overly-sentimental, Rome WAS Sylmar. He will be sorely missed.

There's no arguing those comments. Rome was a good man indeed.

At the rate older members are dying, maybe we should have a memorial topic in the forum.

Rome Spirit is in·del·i·ble on Hang Gliding at Sylmar, he was part of a Louis and Clark expedition that established Hang Gliding in these mountains.

I think thats him on this 80's video 39 through 42 seconds

He made many efforts to keep Dodson Road open to launch battling erosion and rain storms. A political issue exists as to weather he could have used a stemcell inhaler to extend his quality of life. 60 minutes thinks otherwise.
I should not be but am still sad he is gone.

FYI - a memorial is planned for Rome at the LZ in mid December. Date will likely be Dec 12th or the 19th. What here for future updates.
