Strictly as an engineering issue, the pole could be extended.

For strictly maintenance reasons, I placed the weather station lower so that battery replacements wouldn't require the need for a ladder when the time came.

If you are volunteering to hike your ass up there when the batteries are going low, then we can move it.

It's a wireless station running on 433Mhz so nothing other than the station needs to be considered, I believe.

Ok, so lengthening the pole was a bad idea.

I don't know what would be gained by moving the weather station a few feet higher, 0.001 less error?

A bigger question is what would the difference be between a weather station on Kagel launch versus the Camp 9 weather station?

A price drop from $3,000 to $675 for a GSM solar weather station with a cellular modem might make it feasible

The pole was lengthened, or rather, Richard Shaw climbed a ladder and placed it at the very top.

He had to stand on the very top of the ladder and straddle the top two rungs to reach the very top. With the watchful eyes of the countless supervisors, North alignment looks acceptable.

Should be moved out of the "weak" category.

Regarding the possibility of a weather station at the top. Cost is a prohibitive factor. This one in the LZ will cost nearly nothing compared to the time, money, effort, and maintenance a mountain top system will require.

With the addition of the web / weather cam that will be installed with this installation, I think there should be enough information to determine if the trip to the LZ is "worth" the time.

Was it really that easy to trick Shaw into replacing those batteries for years to come?
