The new restroom should contain 16 storage tubes

Post by dhmartens »

According to stats at http://shga.com/gliderStorage.asp

We are at 0.84671532846 of capacity.

Many battles have been fought, blood sweat and tears spilled, but I had to store my glider in 2002 off site and was persecuted my ex-gfs, her cats, the fire dept for blocking gurneys ability to pass, an irrigation tube on top of a car in an apartment carport, and then cats urinated on my glider in the SHGA storage bin because cats slept on my glider at an ex-gfs living room floor.

I worked at AT&T as a consultant at their Capacity Management project in the late 80s.

Buy a used trailer and redesign to add 16 storage because in the future our sport will become so popular we will need it. Bulldoze the handicap path later and let them sue us, they can pee in the bushes.

We are at the war the first casualty is always the battle plan. The Feds are helping us do not go against them.

Barton may be wrong about Bob and the bathtube but he said don't go against the wind.

Against the wind ...

Great songs. I can almost recite them from memory.

"Seems like yesterday, but it was long ago..."

The problems at Torrey were brewing for years, but they came into focus in 2006 with the banning of Dave Beardslee. That led to the creation of the Torrey Hawks in 2007 to give a voice to hang gliding pilots who were not represented at that site.

The proper response from USHPA's President Lisa Tate should have been something like this:
Better Leadership wrote:USHPA does not generally take sides in local disputes. Instead, we do our best to empower the local pilots to fairly resolve local disputes within their local venues.

Torrey Pines is operated by a business, and pilot interests are represented by the various clubs that make up the Torrey Pines Soaring Council. As a member of that Council, USHPA would like to see all pilots represented fairly. We therefore request that the Torrey Hawks Hang Gliding Club be added as a member organization of the Soaring Council. This is consistent with the RC clubs which have one national club and two local clubs on that Council.

Given the considerable differences between hang gliding and paragliding - including both flight differences and cultural differences - USHPA recommends that the Torrey Hawks represent hang gliding on the Council and the SDHGPA (which has become a mostly paragliding organization) represents paragliding on the Council. USHPA will retain its seat representing both sports just as the American Modelling Association represents both scale model and non scale model RC sports.
That's what should have been done in 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, and every year since. Instead, Lisa Tate took the word of Brad Hall who was David Jebb's buddy ... and the rest is history.

Against the wind: the best way to launch a hang glider ... or a hang gliding organization! :)

Thanks Doug.

It was just too hot out to post the Bob Show, but it sure was nice the other weekend to see the new restroom functional AND the old porta-potty gone, even though it was a thermal generator.

That brings up the question of using your nose and sense of smell to center a thermal.

And speaking of bathrooms, we intend to have the second bathroom functional for the Dahlsten Cup on Sept 16th. It may not be totally finished but you will be able to flush away all day!

AND, speaking of storage tubes, we will be raffling off 2 unused tube storage spaces at the Dahlsten Cup competition this Saturday. $5 donation will get you one change for a free (vacant) tube of your choice for one year. You can buy as many chances as you like. Winners cannot use the win to pay for a tube they are already renting; a new storage tube must be filled as the purpose of this raffle is to fill unused space.
