Forecast was iffy with light N wind Saturday and SE Sunday and 10K cloud base. It did not stop 5 pilots and 1 driver to go for it. We leaved Kagel LZ about 7:00 am and arrived to Paiute launch at 2 pm. Vista was beautiful with snow from recent storm covered the peaks:
I launched first and straggle for at least 40 minutes before conditions improved. Climbed to 10K and went south. Easy run to Black mountain, but can't get high enough to make crossing over big gap to Inyo mountains and opted to land in Big Pine for easy retrieve. 24 miles open distance with max altitude: 11K. We had a dinner at Bishop and then camp in Alabama hills. Sunday morning greet us with clear skies and calm wind. We arrived to Walt's point at 10:30 and there was no cycles at first with inversion below launch. At 12:00 things start to improve and OP decided to launch first, but rest of us was not inspired. At 1:00 Greg and me launched and climb few hundred over, but that was it.
After 20 minutes I went down range, but conditions did not improve much and I landed on Whitney Portal road. 9.7 miles open distance, max altitude: 9.8K. GPS track:
